So i went and refilled the argon today, still trying to get some colors in my welds..

And the only things ive changed, were ; switching back to 2% thoriated (red) 3/32's tungsten, obviously the new freshly filled argon bottle, and a new medium backcap ( LOL ).

Start off with some random aluminum i tried

And these welds ARENT pretty, but i was more or less trying to get colors then worry about the bead pattern.

This bead is super thin, thats a 1/16th filler rod next to it.

my current torch set up

standard gas lens, #8 cup 2% thoriated 3/32's tungsten, ck9 w/superflex hose.

I dont get it.. ALL i changed was tungsten, and new argon bottle.. all of a sudden im getting colors without even trying? and my aluminum welding was SIGNIFICANTLY better then it was 2 days ago.. I was even able to weld 2 intercooler pipes together, which ive been trying to do since day 1

It's called experience!!!
Looking good! You have come a long way in a short time.
Another thing to note is once the argon tank gets low you can be sucking up all the shit at the bottom of the tank. I refill mine when it's low and not empty.

So did a little more intercooler pipe welding today.

the first time i did this, was terribly ugly

And here is a little very terrible fixture ive been using to hold pipes on and act as a halfass heatsink.

Use a piece of angle iron with the V facing up. The use 2 small pieces of the same and have the V facing down. Weld together and put the pipe on that. Or weld 2 pieces of angle together and make a C. That's what I put the pipe on. Easy to rotate and it doesn't move.

Heres a few from last night, ill post more later. ....

U know what's funny. ..... I actually did record it last night while welding that exhaust joint above. Its 6 mins long LOL.

steady travel speed..... thats 3.5" diameter pipe. i was moving roughly 1-1.5" at a time. i only post flow for 10 seconds then move again. no cool to the touch here that would take way to long urban.

True enough, i known if you weld parallel to that bead though if you didn't let it cool that your first bead would turn blue. Very nice colors man. Not many people understand that the shiny silver beads are actually considered a "perfect weld" rater than the blue. In regards to heat zone.

I'm still trying to find a nice budget setup where I can get good arc shots. Anyone have any ideas/thoughts?

No cup walking here I use to think that was cool back in the day but I never got into it..... As long as u have steady hands there's no need to imo.
