Yeah, i just bought this car, drove it home, and read what happened.. i need help ###

Bought a 1995 Eclipse GS-T
- Evolution III Motor w/ T25 Turbo @ 14 PSI
- FMIC, Exhaust, Manual Boost Controller

I got it from a guy in Dulles, VA drove it back to my hometown in ripley, West virginia. The car had a sputtering problem at first, so i checked the plugs, put them back in and the car burns white smoke like crazy.

I check the oil and there are little bits of non-magnetic metal (brass?) in the oil, and the oil is chocolate milky.

I proceeded to remove the oil pan and beforehand, drained the oil, and the oil looks like a golden chocolate milk color, with microscopic specs of brass floating around.

The guy i bought it from said the engine was just rebuilt, but i signed a paper saying as-is condition, and its been two weeks since i purchased the car.

SO what i need to know is what the brass shavings could have come from, and is the antifreeze in the oil im guessing from a blown headgasket or a cracked sleeve?

I'm NOT experienced with dsm's at all, so please help me with as much info as possible, because frankly, im in the dark.


I'm guessing the shavings are from rod bearings, but what could have caused that?


Here is a list of things i'm thinking i have to replace:

Headgasket
Oil pump
Water Pump
Rod Bearings

Get crank balanced


Where do i get parts for the evo III motor at an affordable price and are there any FAQS out there for replacing this kind of stuff, also i need torque specs for just about everyting, especially for headgasket. Please specify whether specs are in ft-lbs torque or lbs per square inch.

nobody else came out and said it, but the water-to-oil cooler in these cars is known to leak and mix coolant with oil also.
just something else to check, but it seems with the shavings you have some more serious issues to worry about.

Just to set some of this story correct.

(1) The car was bought as is correct but at time of sale the car had no previous problems motor wise and did not smoke, did not make any weird noises and ran strong. It fouled plugs from not being tuned and running VERY rich.

(2) The motor came with yellow injectors and a evo316g turbo here is the link where i asked about what motor/turbo do i have? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=208960 The turbo was removed along with its manifold for the reasoning I could not afford any more parts like a j pipe and isntall kit and another wastegate form when the motor was pulled over in japan. As it was i got robbed from being a 1500 labor job to 2600 dollar labor jog because of alot of cust work having to be done like the oil feed lines and everything having to be switched over from motor to motor because ALOT of the stuff from the jdm motor was not correct with the usdm motor. The intake manifolds had to be switched because the usdm one had a sensor on it and the jdm one did not. the wiring with the car had to be converted to except a cam angle sensor and not a crank angle because there is no crank angle. There was ALOT of work done to make that motor work correctly in the car. fcct www.fcct.net is the ones who did the swap and all cust labor on the car.

(3) I knew of NO problems with the car untill 2 weeks later after the car was bought. I called him later the SAME night he bought it and made sure he got home ok because of the fact the car fouled plugs.

(4) I was doing what I could to help. I made phone calls to the shops that worked on the car to try to help the new owner out.

(5) The headgasket and everything with the car was in GOOD working condition and had no problems when the car was sold. I cant say or can say the guy who bought it drove it hard home and beat the hell out of it. I dont know for sure there for i cant say. For all ANY of us know the guy could of turned the boost up way to high and blew it. Im not saying he did nor will I ever im just saying What if?


(6) Honestly who sells a car let alone a modified car to anyone with a warentee? Hince the reason "as is" I had no more money to spend on the car and thats why i sold it. Its a project car as he knew. He knew it needed some cosmetic things but other then that ran good. I took him for a test drive and he drove it home. I really do feel bad about the hole inncident because im not the type of person to be shady. I norm try to do everything i can to make with the best situation i can. I really hope the cars comes out running again. I really did enjoy the car it was alot of fun and I really do wish you the best with it and im sorry this happend. I did not try to sell you a a bad car in Anyway. Everything was done on time with the car and everything was running well when I sold it. Like i said sorry about everything and i wish u the best with the car. take care.
