wrong oil = blown motor

So...i took pretty good care of my car when it ran but i had switched mobil1 delvac 15w-40. When i switched my oil pressure was always goodm lifter tick went away and my exhaust had this intoxicating smell to it, on the wasy back from a junkyard scouting trip the motor took a dump. started whining, i shut it off, pull over, check timing, sranks up but knocks super bad. the only variable I changed was the oil. could this be why i spun a bearing. i was allmost all stock with just intake and exhaust and it blew at 55mph and under 3k no boost.

Same here. Which would be the reason for M1 fs and RP. I wasn't trying to start a war over this. It just seems completely ridiculous to me that you guys are okay with using something that says "diesel" on it.

I keep saying that on the Exxon website it is recommended for performance gas motors. I bet it's even on the back of the jug. It's on the back of a Rotella T jug. . . It says for gasoline engine use right on it.

I also own a light gasoline truck and i am also planning to use diesel truck on my next oil change. Anyone who had experience with the diesel oil, any suggestion. price vs. value. thank you.

hmm never would I though that rotella 15w40 would be good for my 4g63. but after reading this thread i think im gonna try it for my next oil change, ive been running 5w30 full synthetic in the winter and 10w30 full synth in the summer (fking alaskan seasons -_-;; )

Mileage finally caught up with me. I put 10,000 of constant abuse on a second hand motor. Once i break in my new setup i will use the delvac again.

I have a sample of Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 full synthetic that's all ready to be mailed out to Blackstone Labs later the week for an oil analysis. It has 5,200 miles on it. We'll see what the verdict is in a few weeks.

The oil that went in was once again the Rotella T6 5w-40. It will have a rough life for another 5,000 miles then I'll send a sample of that in too.

Why yes, now that you have asked what you should have asked before destroying your motor, we can.

It's DIESEL oil. (See that big word?) it has ADDITIVES for DIESEL motors. (More big words) GASOLINE engines don't like ADDITIVES for DIESEL motors. (Again, the big words are the important ones) 4G63's don't even like whats in 90% of the oil on the market for gasoline engines, why in the bloody bowels of hell would you pour diesel oil in one.

Are you kidding me? What a foolish response. FYI for all the tools so far that have responded with the famous "OMFG you put diesel oil in your car no wonder it blew up!!!" try reading the back of a rotella bottle or any conventional or synthetic diesel oil. It CLEARLY states for use in all diesel and high performance gasoline engines. The voodoo additives you speak of are oil stabilizers and what not to keep the oil from breaking down so early and to endure the extreme heat, hence why diesels can sit there and literally idle OVERNIGHT. Oh and my engine destroying diesel oil of choice is rotella t6 synthetic.

Im no pro on oils but i use 5-30 and 10-30 in my dsm but i have seen most honda guys run 15-40 and never have any problems. i even seen a srt-4 use 15-40 and a ford focus supercharged use 15-40 so maybe your engine was already doomed just time was ticking down that day.

I like what I'm reading and I understand the concepts. These trucks run down the road every day at 30+ lbs of boost and pulling 100 tons or beter while they're at it... these engines are beast and need the best to keep them cool and going all day every day. that being said and with the info on this thread, I plan on using this oil with my dsm when finished. my question is about the break-in period. do I still run the high performance oil or is there a better alternative? also, I'm with the guy who asked for a price/performance list. what's the best bang for our buck? I've heard a lot about rotella t 15w 40 so far but is there a better alternative? what oil filters are you guys using? how often do you change it? I feel there is a lot of information being left out in some of these posts. remember, this is a newbie forum, please give helpful advice to those who are learning. the fewer pompous, know-it-all A-holes we have cluttering the minds of the meek and impressionable, the better off we all are

Don't use this thread as a basis for asking oil-related questions that have been beaten to death. There is a LOT of useful information on this site about oil and filters in multiple other threads.

In fact, this thread should probably just be closed.

The O.P. obviously didn't research the topic before posting based on the amount of guys successfully using diesel oil in their cars everyday or this thread would never have been created.

Since then the thread has just become a shitstorm of "you're an idiot", "this is what oil I use", and is now headed off topic even further by members asking each other what oil and filters they use, along with their maintenance schedule.
