man who ever designed the 420a motor was a great man. they make good paper weights. right now i'm on the third one. to me the 420a is a wonderful motor. i mean the blow head gaskets, throw engine rods, and all kinds of fun things. my last one was the best that would have been my lets see......... yeah my second motor. now that was funny. driving down the road to the sounds of eminem one shot 2 shot. oh boy did i here some shots of my engine rods being thrown through my engine block thats funny. i was like wow those are some good sound effects in this song oh wait my cars stopped moving. crap thats no good. my third motor is thanks to my girlfriend well ex-girlfriend. yeah i know i was stupid for letting her drive but i really thought she understood not to touch and thing that she didn't know what it did. yeah i should of know better. the last motor was nice though had a stage 2 turbo kit from hahn racecraft. which was really nice on the motor but you have to invest to get some real power though. like by a boost controller just make sure you hide so no one can touch it. see mine was sitting right above my head unit so my ex being the very smart girl she is thought it turned on my radio well she found out that nope it doesn't and did you know that 23 psi is just to much on mildly modified car. yeah the bearing in the turbo are screwed up plus out of a 16 valve motor only 11 were bent 2 piston heads cracked and 1 piston warped. what a great sigth that was when i pulled it apart. and for some odd reason there was oil all over my engine bay. okay well i just told all you that so that if you do have a eclipse with a 420a motor go ahead and get rid of it if it is still running and buy a talon tsi or a gst maybe a gsx or even if you have the money the new evo VIII. enjoy the reading and may you succed were i have failed al to many times.

if you think that your status right now as maintaining and holding onto a n/t is bad then replacing that with a 4g63 would be a mirror of a problem.

i would but now if i was going to do that i might as well by a gst tsi or gsx. right now i'm looking into the evo VIII, srt-4, stratus r/t, a g6, 350z, and the speed series mazda.

wow, we've heard this story a million times. cool your engine sucks, some are lemons, some go forever, never know what your gonna come into with a dsm. there are just as many problems with the 2g 420a as there is with the 4g63 2g. i think crankwalk is a huge issue, atleast there isn't a problem with the 420a in that aspect.

181,000 miles and counting here. and what's up with blaming your ex's screwup on the engine¿ :notgood:

turbo charge a car thats not suppose to be turbocharged (with 11:1 comp ratio(i think?)). What did you expect? I mean REALLY..did you not expect them to turn into paper weights?

OH and my 420a runs great :thumb:

Well dude, really what the hell did u expect letting someone touch anything that effects the enigne on your car. MOST IMPORTANTLY (besides the fuel management) the F**king boost controlller is something not to be played with. Not buy your (ex)girlfriend or anyone. See in thats what they call DRIVER error, not mechanical failure. Go head I dare you to let your girlfriend fu*k around with your new car and watch what happens, you'll be wishing you had to drop another 420a in instead of a Evo VIII motor (which is the car I think you should get).

Good luck with whatever your doing, my turbo'd 420a is running strong (knock on wood) and best belive its on pass lock. I don't even touch my shit unless I've got the data logger out..

Actually... stock CR in a 420A DSM = 9.6:1, sir.

I think this is another case of someone getting in over their head and not knowing what they're doing. "Mildly modified?" W T F does that mean? I wonder why an engine would throw a rod? Hmmm.... He's probably right. Stock 420A rods are ejected all the time with absolutely no warning signs whatsoever.

This post has moron written all over it. I hate to slam someone who's just killed his car (his whole posts smacks of negligence), but to come out and further the 4G63 superiority myth by talking shit on a perfectly good engine that was obviously not properly maintained or built and dousing said disparaging remarks with sarcasm is almost an insult to those of us who know what we're doing.

You don't need a 4G63. You need a ratty, dog-eared bus pass, kid. Obviously, you're not ready to play with cars.

AEM V2 ait intake, Greddy header, Evo exhaust, Unorthadox under drive pulley and tru time gears, Venom intake mainifold fuel injectors fuel pump, New NGK bkr 5e plugs, Bosch wires alternator and starter, fluidyne radiator, all new hoses fittings fastners bolts screws everything, AEM computer upgrade. Bosch O2 sensor. High flow catalytic converter, T- fal cooling fans. I'm not sure if all those are considered bolt-on. Oh well.

no where in there do i see anything to do with a turbo? yet anything to do with boost contolling ability

i have exactly 138,978 miles thats like what...220 000km's or so on the oddometer and my engine still runs great.
all i have done was have to get a new clutch (bully stage 1) and replace the head gasket for the oil leak and change my rotors and brake pads and tires a couple times and my spark plugs...

if you take care of your car it should treat you well right?? :D

wow my thoughts exactly.

how can you take your gf raising the boost as the engine sucking? if your on your 3rd engine, i think maybe its time to start thinking... "Maybe its me?"(thanks baxom :p )

EDIT: i was just reading your past posts... seems back in january you were going to swap a JDM Cyclone 4g36 into your RS... what happened to that plan??? :tease:

Seems like another case of a horrbile driver blaiming a good motor for their own ignorance. Who the hell goes through three motors.......you must not have realized that the redline was there for a reason. Learn to drive, and or do what i do, smack your g/fs hand when she goes to touch any knobs. Only control my girl can touch is the lever that closes the vent on the passenger side.

I'm with White97RS, three motors?!! I can maybe understand one, but two is a very slim coincidence. By the time you did #3 you should definitely be looking at the OPERATOR.

Nobody goes through three motors unless they are doing something wrong.

:talon:

my car is stock no knobs to adjust other than seat position ( which really urks me when moved) and the radio and i still refuse to teach my wife how to drive a manual LOL

My car was poorly maintained by the previous owner, almost everything fell apart. As a result, I rebuilt the whole bottom and top end. Now it runs as if its brand new. You just suck. Build it well and it will last. I don't see the point in buying a whole new motor three times.

If your engines blows, pull the sucker apart and make it better.

ANY knob? LOL!

148k here and not a peep... although I hear it's the quiet ones that are making all the trouble :shhh:

Seriously, Just take care of your car, I call it daily maintainance, lights, brakes, fluids, horn and a run up. Top of what needs to be topped off, and check your lights just in case. Doing stuff like that on top of changing your fluids religiously, replacing broke stuff, etc, will really give you a heads up if there is anything wrong, you can tell if you pay attention.

I hope you have better luck with your next car :thumb:

And I hope his next car is a Honda. No need to be killing off another DSM; be it 2GNT or 4G63...

dude I have about 198k on my 420a and the only problems I've had is 1 rebuild, but 3 come on man thats not the car it's the user and next time you need to move your boost gauge so know one can see it so that wouldn't happen again best place to put something that important as a boost gauge is in your center console.

wow simply wow. after reading all of the posting i come to find that only 2 pistons are still left good and i am sorry but i seriously don't see how the g/f could of mistaken the safc for the CD player LOL (has she not been in the car before). also from whatever one else says the 420a motor is great to build on. think this dsmer just blew the motor racing and got beat in the process. just my .02. :|
