ok i have a 98 Eagle Talon. converted the whole body to GS eclipse. on power and speed i was wondering. is it worth keeping the 420A and if so how much power can be brought from it. should i just jump ship and save up for a GST

This is in the worng section, but I say keep the 420a and get the hahn kit.. With just that simple bolt on it is more powerful than a gst is, but if you want to get in real power numbers I say go with the GSX and build the 4G63 motor.. But either way the 420a is not bad because it is a cast iron block and can stand some abuse with a better bottom end build to hold the boost..

I say keep the 420a motor, the only way you should change if you can get the gsx, which is the all whell drive model. But that will also be more expensive, i was in the same boat your in now a little while back. I decided to keep the 420a and I have a turbo on the way. You can make some good power if you build the bottom end, just search around on this site and you will find everything you need. You can expect to get out of it what you put into it, the more money the more power. So ask yourself what your willing to spend and what your goals are power wise.

Like he just said, unless you're getting an AWD 4G63, don't bother. My 420a made more power (200+whp) with less boost (only 8psi) than the GST does. You can take that comment for what it's worth, it is almost impossible to have a true comparison because every setup is different. But the point is changing from a GS to a GST won't give you more power, assuming you would turbo your GS. Only switch to get AWD.

I wouldn't even trade for a awd. Trust me I been there it's just more shit to break. INsurance is cheaper on a "NON turbo" :sneaky: car than a awd turbo car and with slicks a good suspension and good driving you can cut respectable 60ft times and have better top end due less drivetrain loss and less weight.

Well, that's true at the track, but you can'd have your slicks on all the time haha.

I meant it's only worth it to switch if you're getting awd, and awd is only needed (worth the extra hassle) if you're making in excess of 400whp. Just my opinion.

Your right about the slicks but on the street with a good set of tires and a car with enough hp that it really matters you'll still beat the same people for the most part. Awd street launches are on another level though :thumb:

Put together your own turbo kit ~1500 depending on what you choose (Obviously it can be far more expensive but it is entirely possible to build a standard set-up for around 1500)

Build the bottom end ~700-1000

Then you have a car that is everybit as capable as the gst...

So estimate around 2,500 for a basic set up. If your looking for something around 400+ expect to spend over 5,000. You gotta pay to play. Tuning isn't a cheap hobby so if you don't want to spend money you picked a bad hobby :p

Yeah tuning a lone between egt wideband and tuning device it cost me $1k alone but that is the extreme because I wanted the best of the best because of my setup. still after selling your gs and dropping another 3-4k to get a descent gst you would have spent the same amount of money and owuld be stock as aposed to fully built.

Might as well get a GST/X now that you've ruined a perfectly good Talon. :notgood:

LOL but now you can buy his talon bumpers and make a new talon. Recycling!

hahaha I converted my talon to an eclipse like 2 years ago. I just sold my old talon bumper last weekend, and to who? To the guy who bought the old eclipse shell I stripped the bumpers from. Small world, weird how that turned into a circle of trading parts.
