ok i successfullied pulled my motor byself :thumb: which i have never done before but i got a little help from some friends...everything was labeled correctly and put in baggies so i have everything... what my question is to the people who have done this before How long will it take to reinstall the motor...just hooking stuff up and there is no more power steering an ac...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

I took a motor completely out in one night and took a majority of the next day to put it back in.. that is without labeling the harness or any bolts, I just memorized as I disassembled it. Its was a fun experiences trying to get it back in though tranny and all.

I didn't have anything labeled either and I took about 3/4 a day to put it all back in and fire her up. It was my 1st time pulling this motor out and I did it by myself. It should be a breeze, if you got everything labeled and got a friend or 2 helping you out.

That is really dependant on your ability, memory, and available tools.

Many years ago, it took me most of a day to pull a 350 from a '73 Chevy Scottsdale. I pulled the motor from my 2gnt weeks after purchasing it, close to 2 years ago, and IIRC only took me a few hours to get out, and only slightly longer to get back in and running.

I still have all of my creature comforts.

i will admit my ability is lower than most people on here but i have friends with good experience in this...the main thing im worried about is plugging the harness back in it seems like a big confusing mess to me i can get everything else back together that shouldnt be too difficult but i also just purchased a chilton manual this morning on amazon should that supply any help with this situation?

A Chilton's manual never hurt anybody. Just don't forget to plug in the sensors on the back of the block. People seem to overlook those often enough for me to mention. :)

Motor installation is not very difficult. If you can remove it without wire cutters and a torch, I believe you will not have any major issues putting it back in. Have confidence in yourself. :thumb:

Do yourself a favor and allow a whole weekend. This will let you put her in without feeling rushed. Feeling rushed is going to be your biggest downfall. It'll probably take you the first day to put her in and do your connections BUT that allows you the next day as a safety net for the plugs that you missed, the ones that you couldn't figure out or the ones that you put on the wrong sensor. You won't have to panic if something goes wrong. You will have time to post here to get advice.

Also, if you are rushed you are much more likely to break something ;)

Like stated above all the plugs are differant, so you can't hook up the plugs to the wrong sensors. Just follow the harness and the sensor is usally where the plug is.

Nope. There is one connector that will go on a couple of things. I believe it is the coil and something else :coy: . I'm too lazy right now to do the search but you can search on 2gnt for that. It has happenned to a few.

I lost the connector for the coil pack when I changed my valve cover gasket. I spent 15 minutes looking for it. Where could it go? I mean, it is tethered to the harness with it's own leads. It is little things like this that will probably have you throwing a fit, especially if you are pressed for time, as I was.

Bullett offers good advice.

I have pulled my motor in the black car numerous times! I got good at getting the engine out in about 2 hours, not rushing! And the new engine in usualy takes a little more time cause you gotta be a little patient...But I can get an old engine out, new one in and running/driving within 12 hours total.

But thats just because I know everything that has to be done! I've done it that many times!

My first time doing this car, I got the old motor out and the new one in in a weekend. That was running into problems. You always run into problems! Either little or big! So if you need to set back some time... give yourself a weekend like Bullet says.

I know what your talking about. It's the coil plug and the VSS plugs. Very similar, but you got to put quite a bit of pressure on the VSS plug to go into the coil pack. I don't know about the other way around though.

So, let me rephrase myself. Most plugs will only fit into their sensors.
