Ive been googling my symptoms for days and have read many posts that dont seem to quite fix my problem so please forgive me if this is a repost...but any who....

i just got me a 97 spyder GST and it will crank but not start....ive done the timing over and over and line everything up TDC and everything....i get fuel i get spark and i get seem to get compression (dont have a compression tester thats my next thing to get/borrow) but i cant get it to fire...ive sprayed in starting fluid both into intake and on the cylinders themselves ive pulled the injectors and watched them fire and ive pulled the plugs and watched them spark... ive tried everthing that i know to try and have been looking up in my chiltons manual and still cant seem to find the problem causing it... any suggestions will help!

also i dont think its causing the problem...but im new to these engines.... i have all belts except the timing belt and balance shaft belt off the oil is atleast a year old and the valve cover is just sitting on top not bolted down.

with all else present...double check firing order and you may need to do the compression test. Could you possibly have any bent valves?

i havent pulled apart the head yet so im not sure i was hoping to avoid that honestly LOL... but i dont think they are i have no problem cranking by hand and i dont hear any scrapes bumps or anything along those lines. im going to probably try a compression test soon just to make sure.

and according to the chiltons its order is 4 1 2 3 and the cylinders are 4 3 2 1 so i should have them wired right...hopefully.

Check the coolant temperature sensor I once left it unplugged and my car wouldn't start its locate in the thermostat housing and should have a connector with two wires hooked up to it.

so a little update...i have yet to check the compression...dont have a proper tester the one i did have is to small...but i did a lot of looking and research and i think someone who worked on my car in the past did something wrong with the camshafts.... i played around with them and got it to fire once but since then i havent been able to get it to fire again, i also had to leave for work and havent had a chance to play with it since but im hoping tomorrow i can dedicate almost the whole day to working on it

i thank everyone for the help!

Check compression, sounds like you will have too pull the head bud. If the cams were out of alignment it could have done some damage.

I'm interested to see if the valves are okay. Honestly I have worked on cars with bent valves that you couldn't hear when you manually turn the engine over so that doesn't rule it out in my experience. I hope for the best my fingers are crossed that there is no damage.
