will low gear oil cause it to be hard to shift into gear?

It's really hard for me to shift into any gear with the car running. I've ruled out the hydrolics. I know the trans is low on fluid, and I used GM synchromesh in it. (that's what they gave me at the dealership because they were out of the mitsu brand) I had to replace a CV and lost a bunch of fluid, but I put what I could save back in the transmission. it ran fine for about one hundred miles after that, but then made it nearly impossible to shift into any gear with the car running, sometimes I could play with it and get it in gear, but usually not.

could low fluid cause this?

I'm thinking of draining and using Pennzoil Synchromesh, because it's the easiest to get where I'm located.

If it was shifting fine previously, than Yes, that could very well be the reason.

If that is just a general question, its a possibilty and a key component of any mechanical moving part(s) that require lubrication!

Well, I don't actually know how it shifted previously, because I just put the transmission in the car.

What happened was, I put the transmission in, filled with fluid, noticed one of the cvs was too damaged from knocking it out of the hub so many times. so i took the cv out, replaced it. put in as much of the lost fluid as possible. Drove for 2 days, then it started not going into gear.

I didn't replace the fluid right away because all seemed well, and the only place to get fluid is an hour away because I live deep in the country.

Used. But I know the person whom I got it from, and it never showed signs of problem while I've known him.

Reason I got it was because he had a long intake, and went through some water, and blew a hole in his block. so he sold me everything out of the car that I needed to convert mine from an auto to a 5 speed.

BZZT!! Don't use anything but Texaco MTX fluid FM or ATF+4 in that Chrysler made tranny!

"FM" stands for "Friction Modifier" and other fluids doesn't contain that stuff in it.

Being a 420A motor attached to it, it's pretty proprietory on what fluid goes in them trannies and other fluids will do more harm than good - actually blow it apart!

You shove anything else in that tranny and kiss your syncros goodbye since they're brass like the others, but they have a fibreous lining in the cone area that will be destroyed with the use of other fluids, and that's one hell of an expensive rebuild price you'd be facing.

Sorry to bust the news to you on this ..

Good luck-DSM
