A problem has recently developed where, intermittently, my car will not go into gear. It began with a slight first gear grind, so I bled the clutch system. The car drove fine for a day then would not go into any gear the next morning. I adjusted the clutch pedal/master cylinder a little and the car drove perfectly fine for another day. Next morning it would not go into any gear again, so I just left it where it sat. So i went out this morning to see if it would go into gear, and it would. It drove fine today, despite the fact that I changed nothing between the time I drove it today and the time yesterday where it would not go into any gear. I am thinking the master cylinder is failing, since I just replaced the slave cylinder, but there is no fluid leak around either cylinder, and the fluid reservoir was full even before I bled the system. Is there anything else it could be?

Have you tried to adjust it? I'd check all the trans bolts to make sure their all there and tight.

Same problem here. Everything clutch related has been changed including ball and fork. I've adjusted it every which way. Im starting to think my problem is in the trans. Changed the fluid last night and it was burnt to hell. Only had 1k on the fluid.

May want to check your fluid as well and see what you come up with. Ive been chasing the clutch theory for months with no luck.

I will check the trans fluid when I replace the master cylinder. What part inside the trans could cause every gear to not engage? The throw out bearing is the only thing I can think of, but it seems to me if that went out, it would not go into gear at all; instead of these intermittent symptoms. Next time my car doesnt go into gear, I am going to see if the slave cylinder is properly actuating the clutch fork rod. Maybe that would answer a few questions. Keep me updated on your progress, though.

Every time I've had the clutch issues and bleeding and adjusting the master/slave didn't work it was the 12 mil bolt on the rear coming loose.

I'd check that bolt too.

I believe he is referring to the bolt that holds the transmission to the block. Be sure that all of these bolts are tight, because if they are loose, the transmission will actually separate from the block, which reduces your clutch fork movement.

I have had this problem in the past. Have someone push the clutch with the car off while you visually inspect the contact point of the transmission and engine.

Good luck!

Next time I am home I will check on the bolts connecting the transmission to the engine. If this is an issue caused by the failure of something outside of the transmission, I am not too worried about fixing it. Is there anything within the transmission that could cause these symptoms? Will a dying TOB cause this?

We can rule out the bolts attaching the trans to the engine being loose, because I checked those. Updates still to come when I have finished bleeding the clutch system after the new master cylinder. Bleeding is not going well so far.
