When im driving down the road , when i try go into third gear it dosent want to go . This is the first time ive drove this car and im confused . id just like ot know what it could be , cause i could just go from 2nd to 4th if i have too.

It sounds like something inside the transmission is binding up not allowing you to get into 3rd gear. My guess would be that you have a cracked synchronizer blocker ring on third gear. Also check your fluid level and condition to get an idea of what shape the internals of the transmission are.

I asked my Auto Mechanics teacher today and he said to check the shifter linkage and it might be adjusted wrong in third gear , i dont know really what it could be im just gonna run with it like that till i have time to dig further into it.

Do yall think just changing the fluid and filter would make much of a difference.

Do these in order:

Check slave cylinder for leakage, then bleed.
Adjust shift cables correctly according to the vfaq.
Change the fluid, GL4 or synchromesh.

If that does not fix it then it is an internal problem.

Yea with the car off it'll go into all the gears , and when it was in the shop it wouldn't go into reverse at all so i adjusted the shifter linkage so it would . So could it be that i adjusted it to go into reverse that it got it out of adjustment in 3rd gear

Check the rubber bushings on the shifter cables at the trans end, and also check to see that the cable mounting bracket is secure where it bolts to the trans housing. That also has rubber bushings that have been known to cause problems. Adding a couple of washers under those bolts can sometimes save you a transmission rebuild.

Most likely need a new Synchro. Usually easy fixes depending on your mechanical skill and how hard your tranny is. My brother and I did a second gear synchro on my old car and it wasnt a major project. All I can tell you is it probably needs a synchro

I had that issue when I first got my gst. It wouldn't go into 1st and 3rd.
I changed the slave cylinder and bled it. Fixed it right up
