(Cliff notes at the end)
Hey everyone, I have used this site for a while as a non-member and it has helped me greatly. But this issue I am having, I am unable to find similar symptoms searching around, mainly because the key words are widely associated with common transmission issues. Now for the story issue, let me apologize ahead of time for the long paragraph head I am unable to write undiscriptive...."stories"
Two days ago after work a friend wanted to see what my car was capable of, we drove to a safe spot about 15 minutes out. After zippin around a bit with some spirited driving I decided I was going to push it a bit further that I had before. What a friggin mistake that was, aparantly my car was very comfortable with the limit I had usually set myself at in terms of how hard I drove it. Boom, we rip through a turn in 2nd gear and the car is pulling hard, I decide to let the 2.3 stroker rev a little higher than the 6000RPM "safe" limit I keep myself at. Bam I see 7000RPM on the tac and hear the apexi n1 screamin
. I decide thats about the limit my engine wants to take, keep in mind this is not my normal driving, got a what I though was a good shift into third. Nope! I hear the agonizing crunch, chomp chomp chomp as my transmission starts eating its insides then pops out of third like it was its job
A lot of $-@* #-@(+ @-&@ was said. I come to an embarrassing stop with an "
wtfbbq" look on my face, so much was going on I initially thought I trashed my engine. Thank (insert religious term or whatever you want, really) that it wasn't. After getting it home my face was glued to the computer monitor looking for people with similar symptoms. That led me here, writing ^^^^.
Symptoms/what's going on. While the car is NOT in motion and started there is no noise. If the car starts moving, regardless of what gear I am in or if I am in neutral, I hear a disgusting grinding/chomping noise that is consistent with how fast the vehicle is moving. The car will not go into third while the engine is running, if I attempt to ease it into third it grinds with tremendous anger.
So I am at a confusing 6 way Russian intersection with no lights or signs. I am pretty positive my third gear is done, but what about my center diff?
Cliff notes:
-vroom vroom driving fast and furious
-shift into third and my third gear dies
-not sure if my center diff is also gone
-tips/pointers please
Thanks. I know the story wasn't as funny as the look on my face at the moment, but I hope it was entertaining.
