i just bought a 95 eclipse non turbo and for 1400 it was a good deal besides of the 3rd gear grinding.. when i looked at it the last owner said he called around mechanic shops and they said i needed a shifter kit (a new shifter, bushings for the shifter, and bushings where the shifter cables go into the tranny.). I think that is true because the shifting/shifter feels really loose in every gear. another thing could tightening the cable itself be the problem? it does have a newer motor in it as well... i would like a 2nd opinion b4 i go on. thanks

I couldnt tell you how to fix it but i have a 96 n/t that has the same problem with 3rd grinding. I have to let the rpms drop about 1000 so it doesnt grind but it still sucks not being able to catch gears as fast. so if you do figure it out let me no or i can somehow fix mine ill let you no dude

hopefully the cable is a problem... maybe it bein too loose, but ill ###### get a short shifter and the bushins here soon

The problem to your car is that you have a bad sychronizer ring on your third gear, its about 40-56 at a dealer. The synchronizer ring is located in the gear box of course. I have the same problem nand with the same gear
