Will I need to tune with these upgrades?

Alright, since I have had my 91 gsx, I have been using this (Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 1 Power - DSMtuners) as my upgrade guide, because thats what its there for. So I am slowly but surely buying all the parts and they are starting to pill up in my room. So my question is: When I start getting them on, will I need to get my ecu flashed so I can tune, or is it unnecessary to tune with the mentioned bolt ons. It doesn't say anything about needing to tune in the upgrade guide, atleast that I can see, and I don't know enough about these cars to make my own decision. So what do you guys think.

Thanks in advance.

I bought my 2g fwd with the follow mods: 6 bolt swap, fmic, cheater turbo(16g compressor wheel in 14b housing-25psi), 550cc, cyclone intake manifold, 272 cams, full 3", greddy type s bov. The previous owner said it has forged internals but I'm not sure. I also haven't pulled the fuel pump or anything. But it came with a safc2. Do u guys think that this would be sufficient to tune? Or should I just got with ECM? Also what kind of hp do u guys think this car could be pushing?

I'm not sure what kind of hp you would be getting but, I'm my opinion I would go with link. Until you get a tune I would turn the boost down to about 15-18 psi. You dont have a device to tell you your a/f ratio you could possibly be leaning your motor out which can cause damage to your piston rings. I would upgrade the fuel pump to a 255, grab an fpr grab link then tune just to get an idea where your at. Do you have a hp goal in mind?

Atleast to get close to 350whp if your have a 5 speed trans you will need these things atleast.

A 16g turbo, front mount intercooler, ecmlink, 750cc or higher injectors or atleast 1000cc injectors if you run e85. It is more difficult to make higher numbers on pump gas with small turbos. Also you will need a 3 inch exhaust and walbro 255 fuel pump and to get about 350whp on a 16g you will need about 25ish psi so I would get arp head studs and also to help alot to get it easier you can get a set of 272 cams if need be. This is start of mods what I ran when I started, and what most everyone has been doing for years it doesn't change its same for everyone to start there, I know atleast 1 of everyone has these same mods or close, you can look at everyone profile they atleast have those mods. Now I know ecmlink can be pricey you can also get the lite version for $100 less or look into someone that does customer chips for ecu's, but safc will not cut it. I would never use it on a car it's just one those things out there that you must be on a super super buget to even think about but you not getting far with it. It's been gone over 1 million times and not saying anything rude I also have said this same thing 1,000 times to everyone keep searching first and you will get your answers, more or less it will come back to this exact thing I just wrote, I hope everyone read this...again. Enjoy!:thumb:

Okay, I know my ecu isnt eprom. My goals are 300-350 awhp, atleast I say that now. I had a fmic, took it off, and an ebay 16g that i plan on replacing with a real one in the future unless you guys dont think its worth it. And why wont a 1g maf go far.

350 awhp you WILL be increasing boost and you WILL be adding fuel and air so you WILL need to tune the car. 350 awhp is not a large amount of power but, it also isnt a slouchy number. An SAFC will work with a non-eprom ecu. However i think you may be very close to the limit of that SAFC so, when you get the disease that all DSM'ers get and want more power later on you will have to change your setup anyway.

Alright thanks. I am currently working on getting a 2g maf, a new fmic, evo 9 injectors, walbro 190, and a used safc 2. I have realized that 350 hp is out o the picture with just those upgrades, but even if I could get 275 I would be happy. I'd really like to be able to run over a 350z or a g35 coupe. There are way to many guys out there with an exhaust on their g35 of 350z, that think they are so fast. Not to mention all the 270hp mustang gt's that sound faster than they are.

I'm just starting off as well, my first mod was to install ECMLink. I'll be doing an intercooler, head studs, cams, gears, injectors and fuel pump next. I'll be upgrading the turbo as the last thing.

I have a question. How much will keeping the exhaust stock hurt my performance? I love the look of the factory GSX muffler and don't want to get rid of it. I also want my exhaust as quiet as possible.

Stock exhaust is extremely restrictive. Look for a stock looking 3" muffler, I saw one on the link forums the other day don't recall what its called.

Also, if you are going to buy Safc, you might as well pony up the extra cash and get link. Safc will only take you so far until you have to upgrade to link anyways.
