Will I need to tune with these upgrades?

Alright, since I have had my 91 gsx, I have been using this (Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 1 Power - DSMtuners) as my upgrade guide, because thats what its there for. So I am slowly but surely buying all the parts and they are starting to pill up in my room. So my question is: When I start getting them on, will I need to get my ecu flashed so I can tune, or is it unnecessary to tune with the mentioned bolt ons. It doesn't say anything about needing to tune in the upgrade guide, atleast that I can see, and I don't know enough about these cars to make my own decision. So what do you guys think.

Thanks in advance.

Tuning is one a great thing. It should be listed as one of the first options. A lot of people will recommend ECMLINK before any upgrades just because you can get it to run better even with completely stock items. So with that said, yes I would get a tuning device. What are your goals? What have you got so far?
I recommend ECMLINK but it is a little expensive. I would check to see if your ecu has eprom

Okay, I know my ecu isnt eprom. My goals are 300-350 awhp, atleast I say that now. I had a fmic, took it off, and an ebay 16g that i plan on replacing with a real one in the future unless you guys dont think its worth it. And why wont a 1g maf go far.

You will need a FMIC, or some smic like a supra smic,
upgraded fuel injectors(if you get link, go as big as you can. E85 should be an option for you), fuel pump, afpr, if you have the ebay 16g on now i would just run it until it goes bad.
Also will need mbc,
wideband, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge if you need a 3rd, I would go with a 3" exhaust, you still have your stock BOV? If so look into crushing it.
If you are not getting LINK then I would get your parts, install them all at once and then take it to get tuned.
What exhaust Manifold you got?

Make sure you have done your maintenance first though or you will be mad. Timing components should all be new <60k miles. If you don't know how long it has been, then replace it. You will want to change your fluids, I recommend redline mt90 for tranny, and redline heavy shock proof for t-case and rear diff.
Also for oil, look into Brad Penn Oil

ECMLINK v3 lite will be just fine for you. If you decide in the future you want Speed Density you can always upgrade and you will just have to pay the difference.

Alright. I will probably buy a wideband, fix my awful boost leak, then do the tuning stuff. After all that I will start putting on the performance stuff.

Oh, but what I was wondering was, when i buy the ecm, i have to choose injectors and a maf. When i buy it i would have to choose stock right, but then what do i do when i upgrade to different injectors

You can change those settings anytime. They just do it so that it comes prepared. But you can do it at any time. It is not set in stone.

If you are just bolting on on the exhaust mods you mentioned you don't necessarily need to tune right away. Although as stated you will always benefit more with a tune. If I where you I would bolt on your setup then get an aftermarket boost gauge and a mbc. Turn it up to 16 psi and have fun with it till you want/need more. :)

Dude... ok, heres the thing. You are absolutely not going to make 300-350whp off a Big 16G setup on a stock motor (not even cams) and stock injectors, even if you had a walbro 255lph fuel pump (which you most definitely should have done).

I made 331whp at 28psi on the 16g with 3" full exhaust, 2.5" tubular o2, safc-II street tuned, maf-t w/ GM 3" MAF, 550cc injectors, FMIC, AND 272 cams. Don't kid yourself on this stuff... its not as easy as you think on a 16g setup if you don't run the right supporting mods.

BUT as everyone has mentioned to you... one thing I didn't do on my 1g was get ECMlink v2 of v3. That over all ON the supporting mods will yield you the safest and best horsepower.

I never intended to make 300-350 with just the turbo. I was planning on getting a fmic, 750 injectors, walbro 190, somewhere around 18 psi, hard pipe intake, and a full 3 inch exhaust including ported mani. Then with a tune I will hopefully be around 300 awhp.

Doesn't matter What EMS you get just get a way to dial the car in correctly.
It's all subjective in the end Bottom line as long as you can make the car's parts work together and do it in a safe manner to make the best power/safest etc. that ever it is you end up going for. Then you will be happy and the car can be as well... .

What is EMS? Is the management system for the car. And if it is, do you guys have any experience with other tuning equipement. Maybe one that isn't so expensive and gets the job done. Ecm is expensive for an 18 year old working at mcdonalds.

EMS = Engine management system

Regardless of whether it is a Full standalone $$$ or something as simple as a custom programmed chip with changes to the stock programming for the cars setup.

Some form a control of what the car is doing is needed to make it run properly and after making changes to the car or to get the most out of it IMHO.

Feel free to email me directly as far as any questions about the services I offer as I don't get into that type of stuff in the forums... .
