Why does seafoam fix idle surge?

The guy who owned the car before me said he seafoamed it to fix the idle surge. I was wondering how come this temporarily fixes the idle surge. Also what should I try as a perminate fix?

To fix idle surge start with a boost leak test and then test your ICS. After that, consider bypassing your FIAV by following the RRE method (free) and also checking your EGR for leaks.

Most likely due to it breaking up some carbon deposits in and around the throttle body.

Yeah, cleaning up the throttle body, and built up carbon.

I have read several different ways to clean throttle bodies in general but is there a more proven way to clean them for DSMs? We seem to have a lot of DSM specific fixes .

yea, take it off and clean it all up nice and pretty, clean up the faiv, install new gaskets, and put it back on.

BUT wait we have a pesky little item attached called an EGR, And guess what its going to do, carbon it all right back up. "If you've had your tb appart you know what I'm talking about". Might as well clean out the inside of your muffler.

Otherwise it will just take maintenance to keep it up. such as seafoam, a cumbustable cleaner! My favorite is a mix of 1/2 and 1/2 93 octane to xylene w a teaspoon of marvel in it. sprayed while running (that is what I do, I'm not saying for you to do the same)!!!. Used to run my r1 on a similar mix 2 to 1 though.

seafoam MSDS Says:
10% - 20% alcohol
25% - 35% Naptha
40% - 60% Pale Oil (petroleum lubricating or process oil)
