Alrighty. I'm assisting here and there helping my fellow dsm friend (kstoopsdsm) with getting his head all together. Well while at his house getting a valve spring seat washer me noticed that the lifters he had in his car are different than the ones in my head I brought over. His lifters have a tiny hole on top instead of a big hole like the ones in my head? Why would this be? is there a difference in them? We just cantget why they are different. Any insight??
Is one better than the other? How would you bleed the one with a smaller hole
The lifters in his car (small hole)

Those are revised 3g lifters (the bigger orifice) and a LOT better. Fixed my tick.

The bigger hole lifters are "revised" 3g lifters or even an Evo lifter is the same...the tiny hole ones are the factory ones

You should have your friend (and any other person who still has the small 1mm orifice lifters) spend the $100 and get a new set of the 3mm revised lifters.

He plans to. When he gets another head. Do you have a link to these lifters? I have a tick in my gsx and need to replace mine soon. And I want to make sure and get the right/good ones.
Thanks in advance.

The small holes are the 1g lifters. 2g had a bigger top hole. Which is likely what is in your head. The 3g lifters have a bigger side passage as well as the large top hole.

So when you call them "3g" lifters, what the hell is the "3g" in reference to?

It's meaning it's the 3rd revision of the DSM lifter (3rd Generation)

There are many names for them. I order my lifters from ITM and they are just classified at revised. There are some benefits to running them but if you rev very high the lifter will bleed out and loose lift. Shep and many others that rev to the moon use a stock 1g lifter. Most of the time if you take those lifters out and soak them in diesel fuel over night and compress them a couple times they clean up and will work properly(no lifter tick).

williillii- The 1g lifter has a bigger top hole than the 2g lifters.

They arrived today! That was the fastest shipping ever! They are the ITM 3g lifters, the same ones MAP sells for $94.00. The seller was theimportexperts and they were $70.94 shipped.

Here is a comparison shot of the factory lifters (left) and the 3g revised lifters (right).

Check out this thread for more info: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/353171-revised-lifters-ebay-too-good-true.html

As you can see, I got them on ebay from theimportexperts for $70.94 shipped and they were at my door in 2 days. They still have more available and I recommend these lifters and the vendor to anyone and everyone!

Hope this helps!

I knew the differences between them. I just didn't know why they were called 3g lifters.

Just get on" Parts Dinosaur" and get the revised lifters.
They are 3mm>

I'm just going to quote myself from this thread now: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/372721-partsdinosaur-3g-lifters.html

You can get the ITM 3g lifters on Ebay for $71 shipped (the seller is, theimportexperts). Compare that to $95.84 without shipping from partsdinosaur. I'm using the ITM's and no problems, check out this thread.

Hope this helps!

So yeah, you can spend $95 bucks + shipping for a set of 16 brand new ITM 3 mm revised lifters from parts dinosaur, :hmm:

It was a no brainer for me. :sneaky:

I just did mine over the weekend, I originally thought I had revised lifters for the last 5-6 years (I didn't do the rebuild). My lifters were tick free the entire time until I recently did some work and left the vc off for some time. That's when the tick started.

The entire process took about 3hrs, not bad considering I've never done it before. I was also due for an oil change and installed a new vc gasket while I was at it. I ordered the valve lifter tool which made the process much easier than I expected. I'm sure if I used the prybar and screwdriver method, I would've been at it all day.

I followed the vfaq, but I don't know if it is necessary to dunk the lifters in oil and bleed them since the ones I ordered (ITM revised) came in a small packet with some sort of clear lube. I think making sure it collapses freely is enough since it is already lubed. The bleeding of the lifters took some time alone to do, at least 20 min alone ensuring that I bled them thoroughly.

I removed mine with a prybar with no issues. Overall it wasnt too difficult but start to finish I dont remember it taking 3 hours. It has been quite a while though. ROFL

True but I'd much rather give my business to Bruce than to someone on eBay when it comes to stuff like this. I have plenty of respect for the business he runs, and that means I'm more than willing to pay his more-than-acceptable prices. :thumb:

i recently did mine as well although i tried and tried to bleed them but nothin came out of them do they all need bleed or what? i reinstalled them but have yet to finish my build turned the cams a few times and everything seems to be in working order. Any suggestions?
