Who has installed a set of Aerocatch pins?

Hey guys,
I just got my Aerocatch hood pins in the mail, but i have a couple questions.

They will go on my carbon hood, and here is the question:
I want to remove the stock mechanisim (latch) altogether and only use the hood pins.

What do you guys think? I want to this firstable to clean up that area and make a nice diversion panel for the rad and second just because I hate it, is ugly and probably heavy.

Thanks.

If you do delete the latch, watch out for people stealing your shit. I'v got CF hood and did not install pins. The latch works great with CF hood. My thought's are it's only cosmetic, untill stuff starts dissapearing.

Unlesss im mistaken the aerocatch pins are locking are they not? At least my friends set are, so he shouldn't have that problem.

Actually, CF hoods really do need pins, there are multiple stories of stock latches failing to hold the lighter/flimsier CF hood and sending it into the windshield while the car is on the road. If you do delete the latch, be sure to get locking hoodpins, as stated before.

Yes the Aerocatch I have are the locking ones, I do a fair amount of road racing in the summer so I want to make sure that hood doesnt go flying.

Thank you for the info..How much are the pins You ordered?

Read the whole post. Emphasis on "This is why I run the stock hood latch and pins as well in a center location to follow the factory reinforcements."

Did this on my car. Works fine. Did it for the exact same reasons you did. Aerocatch latches + carbon fiber hood + radiator shroud. You'll want to cut off the metal latch loop on the hood so as to simplify your shroud. Removal of the latching mechanism is as easy as unbolting it and disconnected the cable. I just tucked the cable around where it was and it seems to be snug and doesn't make noise.

Oh, I too also thought the latch was heavy. Turned out it really wasn't :) Didn't matter as it was still dead weight since I have the locking latches.

Thats what i wanted to hear, How about some pics of the finished product.

If you mean the shroud... well the shroud I have is rather ghetto. Made by a local race shop while they were doing some intercooler repair and unfortunately I was not specific enough in how I wanted it. I swear I told them to yank the stock piece and make a nice complete replacement but they opted to go cheap on the design. They basically cut a piece of aluminum sheet and screwed it over the stock piece, painting it of course. It gives the appearance of a complete shroud but it's still layered over the old one, though it of course covers the stock piece's hold for the hood latch loop. It works, but it ain't pretty. As you can see from the rest of the engine bay I'm not super anal about looks anyway.

Is there a reason of why you opted to installed them kind of sideways?
Or is it just beacause thats how you like them?

I have ordered a Cf hood and wanted to use the AeroCatch hood pins on the 1ga but I havn't seen anyone that install it and I wanted to know if it was able to be done on the 1ga since the pins is flush and the hood is different from the 1gb. I been looking for pics for a while b4 I purchased my hood. Any pics or links to see it would help, ty

I love them! i got mine from JNZ Tuning and they installed them as well.

A 1ga is easy to do. I just used these already exsiting holes a little more dead center and forward for the front two. The back passenger side is kinda a PITA but you can go wherever with them if you want. Of course I Just did regular pins but same princlple.
