Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

i had exactly same symptoms when my t 25 blew nice WHITE smoke for some reason mobil one burns white. replaced my turbo with a 16g that actually i bought from jusmx141 (ebay knock off) that was rebuilt ive been running on that smoke free for 7k miles.

Dose that mean my piston rings are shot? also the smoke smells like burnt oil and it started only a few days ago.

It could be a few things.Have you searched on this subject? There's tons of threads about why it would be smoking.Search it you'll find more answers faster then sitting here waiting for reply's.Most of the time the result of worn oil rings is a thick, blue-grey smoke.

Do a compression and a leak down test on it if you can, if not then take it to a shop and have them do a test on it. That way you can narrow down your problems. Also what you could do by yourself is check the turbo for any shaft play or anything. Does your car smoke? like at start up? when you accelerate? just at idle? or what? Also as im sure everyone has thought, just read up and do some research on here and maybe you might be able to find out what your problem is. Good luck my friend! :thumb:

When i first start the car it dose'nt but about a Min or two the smoke starts rolling out and never stops as long as the car is running :( I run my fingers in the exchust and it has oil in it. Also before i noticed it would only smoke when i hit 20 psi but now it smokes no matter what so dose that sound like the turbo?

Check your turbo for shaft play. Take off the intake pipe, stick your fingers in the inlet, and pinch the compressor nut. Try to wiggle the compressor wheel up and down, left and right, and in and out. Any in/out play means the turbo is shot. There should be a minimal amount of side/side play, as in, you should barely be able to feel it. Take off your lower intercooler pipe and look for oil puddling in it.

Report back the results.

Ok i will do that when i get a chance and let u guys know. I sure hope thats all it is cause i got a big 28 rebuild tubro that im not useing. The one on the car is a small 16g i belive its a evo tubro.

ok i took off the air intake there is no shaft play at all on the fan but howevery these is alot of runney oil in my air intake thats going into the turbo. Could that be the problem? my car has a oil catch can cause it seems alot of oil comes from the valve cover out that pipe to the oil catch can.

I cleaned out the air intake and put it back on and did'nt hook the pipe from the VC to the air intake and it still smoked like crazy so its eather the turbo or the motor :(

do a leak down test. That will tell you if its the motor or the turbo. I would say its the valve guide seals, turbo is shot, or piston rings.

+1 on the leakdown test. If it comes back with anything less then say a 10% leak, your valve guide seals should be okay. If they do need to be replaced, it'll be the exhaust side which requires a bit more work then doing the intake side. Just replace all of them so that you can sleep at night.

It's been my experience though that it's most likely your turbo. Valve guide seals in our cars get a bad rap and are usually not the culprit behind a smoking DSM.

There's a free tip to those bargain DSM hunters.

If it is in deed the tubro should i put my big 28t on ? or repair the 16g.

I will take it to the perfromance shop tommarow and see if they can do a leak down test on it and let you guys know the resualts.

I noticed before it would only somke aftre hitting 20psi so that leads me to think it was the turbo

Normally your turbo will start going out and you'll notice puffs of smoke either during shifting and/or during boost. Once it goes out completely it'll just smoke all the time... and lots!

According to your profile, it looks like you've got the required supporting mods to run your T28, although I didn't notice anything listed to compensate for your FIC 950's (although, if your're running those injectors then you must have something). If you're short on cash, drop the T28 in there.

if its just the turbo seals its easy to do. But if it has damaged the turbine or compressor wheel youll need a new wheel plus you will have to get it balanced.

I don't think its the turbine or compressor wheel cause there is no shaft play in it at all. And these seals are they hard to change for a newbe? and where would i buy them at? I got the car at the local performance shop and they said it sounds liek the turbo for sure by what i told them but they are going to do a leak down test to make sure.

you can get the seals on ebay. You dont have to have shaft play to have blown a seal. Too much oil pressure or not enough oil can do it. Or running your car hard then not letting it cool down and burning oil inside the turbo housing.
