Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

i just got my MR dp put in and its blowing out white smoke also. it smells kind of weird as well. if i rev the engine it wont come out right away. only after the rpms go down. there arent any leaks anywhere. what is it burning?

checking in ### i'm a new 1g gsx owner with the same problem.

i ran some seafoam thru the car this weekend but the car barely smoked and when it did i didnt have time to see where it was coming from ### i was by myself but something leaked around the turbo/ intake side. then last night i was being a little spirited on the way to work and when i pulled into work a good ol puff of white smoke came out that side of the engine bay

are they saying here that the leak is the cause of smoke?. what else could be the source? and is it something to be worried about if its not found right away.

Mine was just pb blaster, gasket sealant, grease, oil, coolant and all the other crap that gets all over everything burning off. It stopped after a day or two.

As the title says, i suddenly have white smoke coming from my exhaust. A friend of mine noticed it while i was driving today. Just to give a little history on my car: I recently just got the car back on the road after a recent and very lengthy stock rebuild. (check out my profile for the list of stuff) Now ive done some research about this subject and ive come across a couple of things that i can possibly rule out such as my head gasket or valve seals since i had both replaced. (the head was rebuilt during my engine rebuild) My personal observation would be bad turbo seals on the exhaust side just because im still running the stock turbo on stock boost ( i have a 14b waiting ), but im going to do a compression and leakdown test to finally determine the problem. But is it safe to say that i can cross off the MLS head gasket and the new valve springs on my list of possibilities? The smoking just started today and its smoking periodically and only while im at idle. I dont see the temp gauge spiking or anything and the car is not running hot at all. No smoke is coming from under the hood or anything. Any ideas or direction would be great.

could be a bad turbo seal like you mentioned. just discovered why i was having a the same problem your having. i noticed that their was oil in the IC tubing from the SMIC to the intake manifold when i tore out the tubing for my clutch job.

Yea i read that in a post i was looking at regarding white smoke and all the problems that could cause it. And oddly enough i WANT it to be the turbo because im dieing to put my ported 14b on so badly! But i remember i pulled the lower intercooler pipe about a week ago while i was changing my oil for just curiousity sake and didnt see any oil in the lower ic pipe but i know for a fact that my turbo has shaft play, even my dad was like "man change your turbo soon, you have a lot of shaft play here". Actually come to think about it, my oil didnt look milky or anything (atleast to me it didnt). But just for sh*ts and giggles ill do all the tests during the week and pull the intake pipe and maybe like you guys said, i might find another dead t25 LOL

It could be from the rebuild. When me and my boy rebuilt his talon it smoked for about a week.. Everything was fresh on the car tho.. Come to find out it was just some of the oil burning off in the head due to the people at the machine shop coating it to make it look all pretty and clean..

Just pull the intake and check for shaft play. ANY in/out play is too much, and if you notice excessive up/down play (as demonstrated in the video) the turbo is shot.

This is a GT35R that has seen better days:

im going to guess it's the turbo too...i just had mine go bad as well and i have the same problem.
it's only going to get worse you should change it out asap.

Actually that was going to be my update to my problem - the shaft play LOL Anyways, i did check the shaft play and its very noticeable, not as bad as in that video or anything but still a little too much for my liking. I ordered my install kit today. Im finally going to install the 14b after having it for almost 6 month waiting for my t2small to die a horrible death LOL

LOL 14b is ALMOST as bad as the t25... Why you you waste all that time and money ####ing with a 14b? There is a reason 1ger's loose the 14b 1st chance they get...

Anyhow, if your rear seal in the turbo is blown, you wont show any oil in your pipes. There shouldn't be oil at all in fact, if the smoke is actually white.

Also, you said its only while idling?

That wouldn't indicate turbo AFAIk...

Yea i havent done a compression test or a leak down test as of yet, thats tomorrows project. But when i would boost my car and let off, it would smoke sometimes. As for instance, there is a swooping turn turning onto a high way near my house and he was next to me and i accelerated through the turn and i came to a stop at the stop light and the smoke was horrible but when i went to the auto parts store with him just down the road where i stopped, he said it wasnt smoking anymore. He kept saying the smoking was on and off while i was driving. I checked the overflow tank for my coolant and the coolant looked good. Like i said though, tomorrows project is to do a leak down test and compression test just for safe piece of mind. Now would it be a good idea to check the downpipe for any oil as well while im working on the car?

Also while im here, i need to buy new crush washers for my factory water lines so i can reuse them for my 14b, now what size are they and how many do i need? I read on the VFAQ.com install walk through that i will need 8 crush washers, am i right?

And to answer your question about why would i pick a 14b, well....its simple - its cheap and theres a lot of them. And besides, i dont have money for a ported 16g, so i opted for a fully ported 14b :p

I ordered my install kit today. Im finally going to install the 14b after having it for almost 6 month waiting for my t2small to die a horrible death LOL
All you needed is a 1G oil supply line (from the head) and a j-pipe, to the tune of about $40 (or less) spent. Your T25 coolant lines, banjo bolts, and oil drain would've fit with minor modification.

For someone running stock boost on a 2G, the 14B is actually a hell of an improvement over the T25 considering the 2G's higher stock boost level and compression ratio.

Well i have an little update. After not driving the car for a couple of days and researching everyone`s opinions, i finally did a compression test on my car and everything checked out perfect. I also took the car for a drive and it smokes pretty bad under acceleration. My guess, the turbo. I didnt take off the ic pipes or drop the down pipe or anything and i couldnt find my leak down tester but all signs are pointing towards the turbo finally. Now should i just not drive the car just incase? i have another car, i just dont want to hurt the car any further.
