Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

Jojo is right, unless things are way out of shape then you can over bore it, get it decked and you'll be all set to rebuild it.

I know most of you are going to say headgasket failure. The thing is, the exhaust has no hint of anitfreeze smell and I have no other signs of a bad headgasket. Car runs fine all the way to redline.

Here's what I've done to the car since it started doing this.

3 inch catback
2.25 test pipe
Hard uicp
Flushed coolant system (not because of this, I had no heat)

It smokes a little but until the temperature gauge moves about an eigth of an inch then the smoke becomes more noticeable.
No loss of coolant but I'm losing oil I think due to a bad pcv valve. I changed the pcv a few days ago so I don't know if the oil loss changed. The exhaust smells like fuel and I pulled the number one spark plug and it doesn't have a tint of green and looks normal. Any suggestions?

Before I flushed the system yes. There was a lot of rust build up and I flushed it twice in one day and there's no more signs of rust and it's no longer pushing coolant. Reserve tank and radiator cap are always at the level I filled them at I check everytime before I start the car. I haven't driven it since December except for maybe 3 days. I've been starting it up twice a week and its been I'm a garage with the heat on 45-50 degrees

Before I flushed it the reserve tank would fill up to capacity and coolant would get pushed out of it but it always ran fine and NEVER over heated since I've owned it. Matter of fact the temp gauge never went over the half mark.

sounds like valve stem seals might be going along with something else or more. I will be willing to bet it is your rings as well. It is just going to get worse fairly quickly.

If it were rings or stem seals wouldn't it be blue smoke? Its clearly white asmoke no smell of oil or coolant. Coolant doesn't smell like exhaust and oil doesn't smell like exhaust either. Can raw fuel cause white smoke?

i dont think its rings. When my rings went i was crop dusting the road with blue smoke. usually when valve stem seal start to go bad you get blue smoke when you come to stop and take off.

Last time I had it running with the cap off I didn't see any bubbling. Ill do it again and post results.

Can the white smoke be caused by raw fuel? Being I have no cat and our cars run rich? I have water coming out the exhaust, or what I think is water. Like I said the exhaust smells like fuel and normal exhaust

How many miles are on your car? Sounds like maybe a bad turbo burning oil? To further diagnose it take ## intake snokel off WITH CAR OFF and spin compressor blades....rough?might be heatshield on hotside 'cause of oil cookin. If not turbo do leak down to test seals

I tend to think valve seals. They cause white smoke. If rings, the smoke would be blue or gray. You did get the rust out of the turbo coolant lines right? If not valve seals, I think the headgasket is on the verge of going bad.

Greg

UPDATE

Took the car out for a drive today.

Sitting in the garage, once the temperature gauge moved the smoke started again. pulled it out, took it up the road did a couple 3rd and 4th gear pulls, and had to pull over because my sub slammed face down LOL. When I got out of the car, I looked at the exhaust and didn't see a hint of smoke. Got back in, went a quarter mile up the road then hammered it from 3000 rpms in 3rd gear. Came back home and pulled it in the garage, let it idle and pulled in my father in laws jeep behind my car. When I got out of the jeep I noticed slight smoke. It smelt like exhaust but had a tiny hint of oil but the smoke looked white. So I'm thinking maybe its the turbo??

part of the combustion process yields water but, white smoke is not running rich as that would be black smoke. If it is smoking at idle and not going down the road, that is valve stem seals and depending on the shape of other things in the engine/turbo, could smoke many colors (white blue or black). If the turbo seals are going, it would smoke under boost when pressure is higher.

doesnt make sense to be turbo seals if it doesnt do it under boost. It could be valve seals as well but, that would make smoke at any rpm as well.

Alright, I am a newb when it comes to here, but felt like i should support this amazing site... anyways

Ive noticed that i have White Smoke coming from my exhaust at idle. Smells a little sweet so im thinking head gasket. Also possibly due to overheating a few months back from running out of water in the coolant lines (damn the place i bought it from).

Have checked the coolant level, and it has lost a tiny bit, but its been about 4 months since i last filled it, figured that was normal.

What are the implications to continue running it as such? It is a completely Stock 2g minus Injen intake and Evo 8 BoV

Do a compression test. You said the exhaust smells sweet, thats most likely coolant. Check your dip stick to see if it has a milky whitish color to it. I personally would drive it anymore till you figure out what the problem is.

Well I check my dipstick often, and its always Purple or darker... like right now its a Dark dark purple (im like 300 miles from an oil change)

Will be doing a compression test in a couple hours, need to swap out my platinum plugs for copper

Also, just wondering, but would a bad turbo have anything to do with this? i dont think the wastegate on my turbo works, my boost gauge reads 18psi, and when i do the boost control bypass, ive hit the max my 30psi gauge will go with no seeming of stopping

sounds like another issue of valve stem seals. does it do this just at idle or other times too? If just at idle, valve stem seals are the issue.

How long did the car overheat? You could've possible warped the head if it was for a long period of time.

If it was valve stem's he would be burning oil not coolant.

I only notice it at idle standing behind the car, but when im sitting in neutral and step on the gas, i see significantly more, but dont notice while driving, possibly because of wind, no idea...

I over heated for about 45 seconds, enough to get up the hill and off the freeway. Watched my boost gauge the entire time, and tried to not go above 1psi of boost while going up the hill. Turned out there was no thermostat and lack of fluids.

On a side note, after driving for a bit, when i open my door, it smells HEAVILY of exhaust by drivers door, as well as a lot of heat from under the car at the drivers door.
