I'm going to be getting my timing belt done soon, once this new job starts. I have been looking at them for a while now and just can't seem to make up my mind. I would like to see what some of you may have to say about these kits and your opinions on them. I'm only looking to make 300HP at least once all of my maintenance is done and I start modifying, so I'm pretty sure I'm not going to need a Kevlar Timing Belt.

The 1st kit I'm considering:

VIP Garage: Complete 7 Bolt Timing Kit
I noticed this kit doesn't come with the bearings I believe.

and the 2nd kit:

4G63T Timing Kit Package 4Turbo Engines 1996-1999 as well as 4G63 4G63T Accessory Belt Package

I was also going to go ahead and replace the crank pulley with a Megan Racing one. If any of you have experience with this crank pulley please share your experience, good or bad. If you think I should just replace it with an OEM one, please speak up.

Thank you all for your time and Happy Easter. :thumb:

I'd go to Mitsubishi itself and buy parts directly from them. Yeah, it is expensive but, compare it to the others. There's not going to be anything better then OEM, not even after market, IMO!

Bad advice, why spend more money than you have to. Go to JNZtuning.com. They specialize in selling OEM parts at a much cheaper price.

I would not buy an aftermarket timing kit, your engine is too $$ for that. As for buying said OEM parts, any vendor here on the board sells OEM mitsu stuff for a lot cheaper than satan themselves, that's the beauty of business. I'd look at jnztuning.net or extremepsi.com.

Prices have been compared before and JNZtuning.com is cheaper than extremepsi.com. Well atleast when its comes to timing components.

I go to the dealer. I have not found anyone that can sell me OEM parts for a better cost. Of coarse I get a better price than walk-in. But buying from someone that buys from some else is just jacking up the price. Cut the middle man and go to the source. Im sure there are parts that companies get cheaper due to the quanity that they buy. But Everything that I have went and found at the dealer was a better cost...

Yeah, always go OEM with your timing components, water pump AND crank pulley. The OEM crank pulley has the harmonic balancer which is one of the more critical parts of the crank pulley. But the OEM pulley won't break apart like most aftermarket pieces. On that note, mitsubishiparts.com has OEM parts cheaper than JNZ! Check them out and compare.

Thank you all for the quick replies. One thing I noticed no one mentioned anything about the crank pulley choice I had made. I've searched and had found one post where the guy had said he had no problems with his MR Crank Pulley and it worked perfectly. But this was on a 1g. The only reason I'm considering this is because I found it for 60 bucks. I know OEM is the way to go when it comes to timing and stuff but I just wanted everyones views on the other timing kits. 1. because VIP says they have used them on many of their cars and they seem like a reputable company. 2. Partsdinosaurs.com I heard several using them but was just hoping they would find this post and share their experiences, such as Splitpi did. Thank you all again.

EDIT: I'm looking at Extremepsi right now. Also I live in Louisiana so it would be 4 days to ship here. I'll post back once I looked over everything.

Alright, I've looked at Extremepsi and its going to be about 130-150 more if I go with them. Which could go towards labor. Now I did find this site but its not an entire kit like I need and they say it's OEM stuff too:
Timing Belt Kit - Pro Street Replacement Parts and than just go with Partsdinosaur.com's accessory belt kit.

What do you think fellas?
Thank you again for yall's time.

And of course I won't forget about the tensioner and the water pump.

we've been using and selling the same parts you see on the site for years and years. We love the Conti line. DSM, EVO, Supra, Subie, MR-2.... We use them on all of these platforms and have been very pleased. According to resources i've read Conti/Bando make damn near all of the OEM belts anyway.

I've been in this game way to long to risk selling something that wasn't a great, triend and true.

It just says that those parts "meet or exceed OEM quality", which leads me to believe they aren't OEM. I'd just stick to OEM from one of the vendors like stated previously. There's a lot you can cheap out on dealing with DSM's, but your timing belt and components are some that i wouldn't put in that category.:thumb:
