Situation: I am currently doing a 2.4 edz swap into my RS eclipse. I am planning on boosting it as well. What size turbo would be ideal for maximum pleasure? I have been reading all the threads between a 16g, 20g, etc. In the end my cashflow will determine what turbo I put in it, but for now I would atleast have a goal of what turbo would be ideal for my situation. All and any opinions would be much appreciated.

So... do you have some sort of power goal so we can make this a feasible answer? Also daily driver, weekend warrior or what?

Edit - Also this thread may possibly get locked because its quite the redundant question. I would just search around and see what other 2.4 swap users anticipate on using.

Post your most likely budget and goals.

If they clash, the lesser one wins and that's what you should seek opinions on. :thumb:

a good turbo size can depend on on your power goals and how your engine internals are set up. more power means you will have to select a bigger turbo. if you want to spool quicker a smaller turbo trim size will be best. I've seen a lot of different turbos used. for my build that i am currently doing im still deciding on a 60's trim for fast spool but i want a little more power so i might choose an 80's trim.

What is this, yahoo answers? Trim is a ratio for comparison within one family of wheel. That is it.. Power potential is going to be related most closely to inducer size provided the hotside is not the limiting factor in flow. You

OP please ignore guys like this and get back to us with your budget and goals for the car.

I was scratching my head too at the "60's trim or 80's trim" BS LOL. Thanks for settin him straight.

You have 2.4L of displacement to work with so a bigger hotside isnt gonna hurt at all, you'll still spool fast and get the benefits of high flow as well. I would say if your on the cheap: hx40 6blade.
Or something like a BW s364. Just throwing a couple out there. But it all depends on what power you want to make. A 16g may be perfect for you. Only you can say.

Well he really said "Pleasure," and that's pretty vague haha Some people love their T25s to death. My favorite "Street" turbo of everything i've ran so I far, from 14B to GT4088 was easily the Borg S200sx-59. I feel like I talk about it all the time.

If I had to do it again I would go straight to the divided T4 though, but with a smaller cam. Comparable to a TX272 or GSC S2, I realize we are talking about a 420A.

A hx40 6 blade is not particularly cheap. They are the more difficult of hx40 turbo's to find, most commonly come in a 7 or 8 blade.

Need to keep in consideration the OP's knowledge of turbo's for instance a oe hotside on a hx40 quite large when not paired with the proper setup. Either a bep housing or a t3 would probably best. The only real way to utilize a oe hotside housing from a hx40 is with a true twin scroll manifold, which again is not cheap.

Lets hear a power goal, then we can point you in the proper direction for a turbo.

Yeah a stock t4 hot side on a 40 might be a bit much. boy would she breathe tho... It would crave high boost. A bep t3 is a winner. But with the extra .4L and "max pleasure" he may just go like landspeed said: t4 divided and thats IT. Hands down.

edit: Had to re read a post. A 2.4L in a rs? hmmmmm how informed is the op of what hes doing. This may be all for nought. That is if hes talking a bout a '64. If its some stroked 420a then ok i see how its doable. Never heard of "edz swap"?? idk

For THE aboslute end all for "maximum pleasure": 2 18yr olds, a bunch of champagne and a quarter ounce of that florida coke. Now that would be max pleasure

As far as power goes I am looking for 300hp or more. As far as internals go am going with JE SRT4 pistons. My compression ratio is still undetermined. This is actually going to be my daily driver too. I will be posting pictures and more of this build later. As far a a budget goes I am not looking to spend over 2 grand for a turbo. Thanks for the comments and opinions. Greatly appreciated! :thumb:

hahaha that sounds about right!ROFL

You can easily achieve 300hp on a Big 16g turbo with the right mods. 300 is also achievable with a 420a

Where did you get the 2.4 block from? A Stratus or avenger, something like that?

The Op is most likely not using a 4g64 block.

Yea I got the block out of a stratus.

i run 20/25g on all my daily 2.4T motors, 400hp and a 3k spool is my maximum daily pleasure..

How much did you get your 20g for?

I googled a 14b turbo for sale and I didnt really get a good price range on it. From your exprience how much have you seen this go for?

Were talking about some 2.4 swap of some sort, I'd actually like to hear what this swap is exactally..

What do you think of your Hx40 7 blade? Is it fun? How much did yours cost you? Would you do anything different if you had the chance?

Just to answer what an edz swap is. It's any 2.4l motor out of a pt cruiser, stratus or srt 4 with a 420a head bolted up. Custom motor mounts welded in and all the good stuff.

Now for the op if your anything like a normal dsmer you want room to grow. So don't go with a 14b and anything hx from holset is to much of a hassle unless you get a hy35 because we have no manifolds that are out there to make it work. Your best bet is to find a hrc turbo setup for sale. Any 16g or 20g from hrc will be good for 300hp. I'm currently doing a 20g build on 10.5 compression. But higher compression will require e85 or it won't last. You can find guys selling turbos all day for under 500 just be patient and you will find a good deal. And I only suggest hrc because they make manifolds that bolt right up with no custom work.

Good advice! So this hrc is an easier set up from what I am understanding? The build that i am completing is something that I would want to keep progressing on.
