which Holset for 2.3 evo ?

Hey guys,
this site has lots of info and knowledgeable people about holset turbos, so reccomend me which way to go -

car is evo4, 2.3 forged 9:1 comp. engine with S2 cams. + all supporting mods. I'm not seeking for insane hp levels, just need good flat powerband and quick spool. with nice top end (which I don't have with evo9 turbo). will be tuned on 93pump only

as I guess, 7blade HX35 with TS 12cm^2 T3 housing will suit best my setup end needs. what do you recommend ?

car is mainly daily driver and weekend time attack/autoX/drag car

I would probably go with the hx35 if you want quicker spool/ more streetable. I have a 6 blade hx40 in my eclipse and love it. It is pretty laggy but all lag is forgiven when the boost hits.

is that 2.0 ? where does it hit full boost ?



p.s. what can you guys say about H1C/WH1C ?

The turbo you just listed is PERFECT for your application when used with a twin-scroll manifold.

p.s. what can you guys say about H1C/WH1C ?

WH1C's are inferior to 7-blade HX35's for two reasons:

1: Inferior thrust bearing design that doesn't take well to high boost and needs to be upgraded (though there are upgraded ones on the market).

2. Larger, less efficient 8-blade compressor wheel that's slightly better at low boost, but gets killed in response and ultimate power by the 7-blade.

Throw in a Hy-35
Undivided t3 9cm2 housing(faster spool), physically smaller than then HX (evo's lack the space) and guys still touch 10's on them.

All HY35's are 7-blade. I like their compressor covers better, but they will not match a twin-scroll HX35 for spool. Not a chance.

Take the 12cm housing any day over the 9cm especially with TS and a 2.3l. Damn, a 40 w TS would really kick ass too. But the stock housing is pretty large i believe

Even with a 12cm housing machined for an HX40, I don't think the spool would be where he wants it.

You should be able to push over 400whp on pump.

7blade HX35 in a 12cm T/S is what you need, I'm running that same thing but on an 8.3:1 2.0 motor and i am boosting 15psi at 4K on a low power tune. on your motor this turbo should spool up quite a bit faster, id guess at least at 3.5k between the hightr comp and more displacement. and the 7 blade HX35 will feel like a your stock turbo on crack! it hits so darn hard.

I am at full boost by 4k with the .55 bep mitsu bolt on housing. It the hx35 should get you there a little quicker, especially with a 2.3.

a full T3 manifold would be better but i wonder how fitment is on that, if it works it works.
