i dont have a dsm, but when i get one im going to do all the stage 1 upgrades. anywho, this is my question: what do you guys think in terms of getting cams? it will be a daily driver... should i get 272's or is that too crazy for a daily driver? what size would be equally performance and comfort related?
 
I know your excited about getting a dsm, but dont think about modifying it yet, because you will have maintence and problems to fix, I never belived anyone but i learned (ive owned my dsm for 2 and a half months and put over 1000 in it just in maintence/problems...

272's arent crazy for a daily driver at all. but as stated ^, your going to have to keep it maintained and in good condition before you want to start upgrading it. say you buy a dsm for $3000, you'll have to put another $3000 in it just to maintain it. :thumb: good luck. if you treat your car right, it will treat you right. :dsm:
 
272/272's would give great top end and more power, but for comfort I'd say a 264/272 as it gives the best combination and great power increase for your car. The 272/272 would cause a rougher idle from overlap. The split duration 264/272 cams will have less overlap, which equals a better idle. Overlap is where both the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time. Thus causing the spent gases to mix with the intake charge and result in a weaker explosion at idle, the longer exhaust duration helps make power by allowing more exhaust to escape to spin the turbo faster. Since it's a forced induction motor the intake side can have less duration because the air/fuel is being forced into the chamber under pressure.
