So I encountered my first door handle brake on my 2g gsx :ohdamn: and I was thinking about getting a dorman brand -------> [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JZI2GK/ref=s9_simh_bw_p263_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_r=13R949FRQWEHS2YC9JQ1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1408871782&pf_rd_i=15684181"]http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JZI2GK/ref=s9_simh_bw_p263_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_r=13R949FRQWEHS2YC9JQ1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1408871782&pf_rd_i=15684181[/ame] since I get a good discount at this car parts place. I was wondering if it'd be ok to get that brand or would an oem one through extremepsi be better???? As in more durable --------> [ame="http://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.php?productid=25843&cat=0&page=1"]http://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.php?productid=25843&cat=0&page=1[/ame]

$11 ebay handles are fine IF you use my fix-

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhKGuBa43RE]How to fix 2g dsm door handles - YouTube[/ame]

Edit: I would recommend this for any brand of door handle, but my ebay door handles are going on 3 years strong now after this fix, on multiple dsms I've fixed.

That's not the only problem.

Look at the spring holding the door handle flush. It's that spring that causes a chain of problems- the spring is way too heavy for it's purpose, which is to return the handle flush once pulled up. It begins to bend the metal tab that the linkage rod is connected to, therefore more and more handle travel is needed overtime. Shimming that slot works because the metal tab eventually reaches it's max bent point. But if you shave down the spring thin with a dremel, you won't need anything else. Plus you can set how easily the handle will 'pop' open, like pinky finger easy.

However, with a brand new handle there will be a bit of travel before the door is unlocked. The travel comes from that slot, if you shim it PLUS shave down that spring thin, you can have a handle that pops easily and quick because there is no slack.

Next chance, take out the door latch assembly, and see just how easy pulling/pushing on that rod is just to pop open the door. But with the latch in place it's a lot more work right? Aftermarket springs are terrible FYI, they really need modded.

Thanks for the video! I think mine is on it's way out! Getting harder to open
