If in the second picture that is where they were when you found them I'd say they were used to shim that fork looking metal piece. I had to do this on the a couple handles I've put in. I've used machine screw, nuts, and locktite rather than a cotter pin.

Sometimes when you put in an aftermarket handle it doesn't push that fork piece down far enough to disengage the latch so you need to shim it with something.

thanks...man this is such a headache haha i have large hands and its so hard getting in these small spot...but i am going to just try and shim in back in...do i need to use both or just one?

Are you replacing yours or just fixing an existing problem? If you are replacing them check to see if you need the shim before you put it in. You'll have the have the handle installed to see if you'll need it, then take back out if you do.

If you are repairing an existing problem you can reinstall them or use something else that isn't as long.

yeah i was trying to repair them..i did the doors on my old car and it wasnt as hard as this one LOL...do u think i should just get a new one?

If they are still functioning then there is not point to get new ones. I'd say the cotter pins weren't doing you much good. If you use too long of shim it will hit part of the latch and door and not work very well. I'd say get rid of the cotter pins and go get some short machine screws and matching nuts and use those as shims if shims are required.

Not trying to steal your tread.... But how do you replace that if it breaks off?
