I am looking at replacing my BOV. I was looking at the Greddy XS, but I seem to be seeing people with Greddy problems aplenty. What BOV do you like? Why?

Also, what is a safe PSI for a stock turbo? I hear rumors that anything beyond 14 will raise hell on the engine.

If you are worried go with a type-R Greddy.

The problem with those is that they do not fit under the hood in the stock location. You would have to use a shortroute IC piping or find a way to tilt or move it.

The Tial does not recirculate.
 
Aren't most people who had the need to step up to a tial not using the stock mas sensor anyway, hence no need to recirculate? Seems like more use a maf & gm translator etc.
 
yeh if you dont use a gm maf and maft with a blow-thru setup with a TiAL bov, your losing 10mpg (yes, i recorded a 10mpg increase after getting gm maf, maft and blow thru) because venting to atm causes you to run alot richer, which leads to mpg loss, and engine stalling if you vent to atm and dont quickly re-rev your engine.
 
Alright, Im just trying to see what BOV you guys like/own. Also herd that you dont want to vent it to atmosphere.... why is that ? loss of boost ? Id even like to here if you use the 1g BOV!. Im just trying to figure out what I should get and would like to see what you guys are using.

The reason why people say venting to the atmosphere is bad is cuse the ECU is prgramed to calculate the pressure being released back into the intake. Once you take the rentry-line off of your car then the ecu is still prgramed to calculate for the extra air that used to be there. Since the air is gone it trys to adjust. It keeps on thinking that the extra air will be there and wont be running as its supposed to. The only reason to vent to atmosphere is to get a really cool sound. If you dont kare to much about a nice perfoming car then go for it. :thumb:

As for my setup i dont run on a modded turb setup or diff BOV yet cuse i want to learn the manual tranny better before giving it more power. Better safe then sorry.
 
I got the Type-S as well, and I don't like the sound with just the top nipple connected. I'm gonna see all the sounds it makes with it fully adjustable. :thumb:

Honestly, if it wern't for the stock 2g BOV's inability to hold boost, I'd just stay with that. I'm a fan of that quiet 'poosh'. :p
 
I have a 1G. I hate it but I think it doesn't seal right and leaks boost. I've just been too lazy to do a boost leak test to find out. I'm gonna go with a HKS SSQV :thumb:
 
i have the greddy type-s and i love it. my freinds gst now has the "turbo xs RFL" on his gst and its loud as hell, and sounded great. then one day i was bored so i vented the type-s all night and i will not go back to recirculated. i know the supposed "dangers" of running rich for .05 of a second while youre shifting before the air gets sucked into the intake. im sure venting is not as bad on the engine as, say, turning up the boost and giving the internals more wear and tear. but of course i check my plugs once a week and will swap them in a heartbeat if they look even the slightest bit strange.
 
^^yeah and im addicted to it now. i have a kazoo i just found while cleaning out my room. i might fab up something funny for the weekend. :shhh:
 
HKS. Simple, no BS, wont leak like the Greedy and other BOV's. Does not need to be adjusted to work.
 
HKS SSQV... it ownz anyone other BOV in sound quality, and much much more... never leaks, ever, looks pimp in your engine bay, and you can recirc if you are not man enough to run un recirc.

just get a blow through maf-t gm maf setup and you can vent with no ".00005 of being to rich...
