So i took of my front plate mount thing today and the screw got broken in and i cant get it out LOL. is it illegal to just put it in my windshield?

I don't have the front plate on my car as i hate the looks of it. I know first hand having it in the windshield is illegal at least in the state of Washington as i have got 2 tickets on 2 separate cars before.

I plan to get one of these in the future, don't know if you have heard of them but they have two versions. An automatic motorized one, and a manual one. They are great for car shows or meets when you don't want your front plate visible, and great for after the show when you get back on the road and need it visible to be legal.

Heres a video of the motorized version:

And heres a video of the manual version:

You can find them pretty much anywhere online or here at the website below, laterz :thumb:

See this whole illegal/legal thing is hit or miss...cops don't know EVERY law in the book off the top of their head...the very few times I've been pulled over in my altima each cop has just told me to throw one up on the windshield. Or they will see I have no bolt holes/bracket on the bumper and just check for warrants and let me on about my day.

Yeah, Washington state is real critical about stuff like that. To the OP, just to make sure I would just ask the state authorities in whatever state you will be running your car to make sure, as every state does have different laws. I know it also depends on who pulls you over... State troopers never give me a break while city cops are a little more lenient with stuff like this. At least for me anyway.

Edit: I just saw you were from Washington too, Sorry buddy.... Your screwed! LOL. gotta have it visible on the front while operating it on a public road, and in the words of a Washington state trooper which pulled me over "The windshield does not count"

We need them here in NJ, I have a 1g but I hope this helps out. This is where I mounted mine.

Also, I have been pulled over before for having my lisence plate in my windshield and was pulled over. No ticket, because I had the bracket for the plate mount in my back seat and told the officer I just got it to put it on, I will do anything to avoid cops from pulling me over.

What's a front plate?!

In all seriousness, when I live in Ontario and needed a front plate I took a little idea from a buddy of mine with a Civic; Rare Earth Magnets. Couple behind the bumper, couple on the back of the plate (you have to glue/epoxy them on) and I've got a plate that I can remove in seconds.

...just don't mount the plate directly in front of the airflow to the IC/Radiator since the plate will act like a big air dam moving the air away from where its needed most....which will cause boilovers.

Tried an 'easy-out' to get the broken stud out of the bumper frame?

Why some states wants front plates is for if the police on patrol gets a call on a suspect car and given plate ID, they can see the front a lot better than the rear if approaching the vehicle...than the description of the vehicle itself.

Where I'm in Idaho, I went into Oregon, got through halfway to Portland, and got nailed by their state police with a warning for not having a front plate on (I had the plate under my front seat and showed it to them). I told the officer that I'm waiting for a mount to bolt back on under the bumper to put the plate back on.. He gave me the warning to fill out and mail in..."Phew, what an ordeal that was..!"

i am so going to buy the automatic one.

Oh, please. Find me a cop that doesn't know whether his or her state requires a front plate and that, if it does, putting one in the window isn't legal and I will show you a cop who needs to get a designated driver to get him or herself home.

Maybe you've been lucky and not been cited, but to even vaguely suggest to other people that they could or should ignore the laws of their state is hugely irresponsible.

There's no way to rock no plate in my state. You won't last a week or two without getting pulled.

But I took the whole license plate bracket off and just used 3M double sided all weather tape to mount the plate directly to the bumper. I mounted in a way that it goes on the flat bumper part as much as possible, to keep any extra drag as little as possible, and so as not to cover the radiator area. I've got about an inch or less on the top and bottom that hangs over the bumper.

The original factory paint is very durable so you shouldn't have any issues if you ever decide to remove it. I have never had a problem with my paint coming off with any kind of adhesive and I've used some heavy duty shit.

me neither i rock it in the window and have been told to mount it on the front but forget that. if i get a ticket i'll take a fake fixed it pic and it'll get dismissed. Haven't tried it yet but I think you could mount like a small door hinge under the center / middle area of the plastic front bumper so that when your sitting still it hangs down and when your moving the wind folds it up. Or same theory as just described but mixed with Blurred Talon's theory you could mount magnets on the crash bumper so that it stays up all the time and you get out and pull it down when the cop asks where it is. Just some ideas. Good luck.

Well obviously I just did find you several cops!!! Because they state that I can put it on the windshield...think much?

And I never told the op to leave it off...maybe you should re-read...I merely stated that even cops give and use wrong information.

Maybe it's hugely irresponsible to put words in another members mouth?

I was minding my own business one day and didn't have my front plate on my 1g and a cop was sitting accross from me at an intersection, he pulled a u-turn and when he asked me why I was getting pulled over I had 1 guess for him. It was scarry to because I had a couple of beers that day on the golf course and who knows maybe he would have given me a breathilizer, I would have passed but still if your looking to get pulled over all the time don't have a front plate on your car if your state requires it.

Zip ties work or you could even drill out the broken screw and rethread it or even try an easy out even though they don't work most of the time.

When I lived in California I still had Wisconsin plates on my DSM and I could get away with not having a front plate on. Ive been back in Wi for three months and its "supposed" to be illegal to not have a front plate. However Ive been DD'ing my DSM without it and havent been hassled at all.

I agree with agentorange though, go with the side mount. No blocked airflow to the new IC! :hellyeah:

Actually I should move it to the other side, I will need to eventually when I add a air cooler for my OFH.
