i did a search and this link was the closest i found

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/new...wastegate-manifold-mount-o2-mount-better.html

I was wondering if it mattered where i mounted my wastegate at. Would mounting it on the manifold be safer, or would fabricating an adaptor for my T04b to the manifold and having the wastegate mounted there be safer.

I initially planned and thought that mounting it after the manifold and before the turbo would be the safest however almost all of the posts refer to mounting it to the manifold. Or am i just thinking too hard and it really doesnt matter either way?

Like they said, if you mount it on the o2 housing, you would have to port the housing every time you switch setups

If you mount it on the manifold, all you gotta do is weld it on there and boom, your done.

There was an article or something that explained wastegate setups but I can't find it.

I would run an interally gated turbo to its max before moving to external. Im running an O2 gated turbo on a near 50 trim on a 2.3 with no seen issues.

the stock turbo was blown when i bought it so i bought a turbo i used on my last eclipse. the last time i had and external running after the manifold, however i thought the o2 sensor was after the turbo in the downpipe. i dont have the car in front of me to check, but i dont remember one before the turbo. i never ported it but it seemed to work just fine. but maybe that was because my entire ehaust from mani down was fabricated. well... if i'ma mount it to the mani i'm thinking it might be easier to just get a manifold with a t4 flange on it already.

Its not that they will not control boost fine, but it messes with the signal to the BOV, which can cause flutter and whatnot.. I have never personally experienced it, because I just used the j-pipe and manifold, but I have seen alot of other cat's on here that have done that.. Pretty much any mod will tell you the same..

Hafe's new ss cast manifold that is predrilled for a 38mm external wastegate is a decent price and works very well...My brother just put one with a Tial 38 on his 4g63 n/t (ported the 14b to 7cm) and it holds 8lbs flawlessly. I can be purchased from Extremepsi.com . big_d:talon:

I don't get it. Explain?
It's impossible for us people that run fp manifold to mount it on the manifold. I am all about the 02 housing, but hardly anyone makes them anymore.

both will control boost just fine, id rather have it off the manny. but the o2 is a lot easier and cleaner to some.

Yea, internal gating doesn't control boost just fine at +40lb/min airflows. It works. But so many issues can and have cropped up. O2 mouted external is the easiest to install AND the most expensive. Because it allows collector-like wastegating with easy mounting and clean look. It usually flows a little less, because the exhaust gases are reinserted into the exhaust stream so early (like an internally gated o2 housing).

That being said, I still run an o2 housing mounted external and will NEVER go back. Absolute boost control from 35 psi down to 5 psi. Rock solid and predictable. Even with an ebay wastegate.

Off the O2 housing is your best option. You only need to enlarge the flapper area as much as you can and just smooth the angles of the hole that is inside turbine housing/volute/.

Mounting gate off runner #1 off the manifold is not even an option, nor being right!!!

Def the mani. just like buddahboost said. your gonna be spending to much money when you need to upgrade or downgrade for that instance. good luck

i dont care about the price, or really even the power since the rest of my engine is going to produce plenty. I care about going the route least likely for my engine to blow.

Then you a quality wastegate actuator and flapper arm. Nothing else should matter to you. "Where should I mount my external wastegate?" is not really a proper question for the sake reliability. Unless you want to hear the answer, "I doesn't matter". ALL/ANY prevent boost spike/creep/overboost.

If you run one cylinder more lean than the other because of mounting on one runner, then your tune is to blame. You should tune for the weakest link. If you can't extract the most power from your setup because you can wastegate enough gases and you purposefully overboost and blow your engine, then your ambitions are to blame.
