Okay so I am thinking of buying this gst for sale close to my house, but says it starts fine with a rough idle, sometimes it will shut off after a few minutes and sometimes would make a knocking sound, does anyone know what might be wrong? and if so is it expensive to fix?

any help is needed as soon as possible thanks!

The knocking could just be lifter tick and the Idle could be because of a Boost leak (both pretty easy to fix). But we need more info please.

what kind of info do you need? because I can prob. find out more info

well I talked to the guy and he said he thinks it crankwalk and it doesn't run and he said it might need a new cylinder head?

If you think its crankwalk try to move the crankshaft in an out, see if it has play. If its a hard knock the motor maybe no good or need a rebuild. Sometimes crankwalk can destroy the crankshaft, and engine block. Why a new cylinder head? did he bend the valves?

Are there any aftermaket parts on the car? Is the BOV recirculated? How many miles? Was the car beaten on or taken care of? Its very hard to make a diagnostic with this little information.

Yep we need more information. It could be a number of things.

$5 says it's low on Boost Fluid.

Turn the crank by hand. See if it stops hard at any one point.

Try to move the crank in and out. See if there is any obvious play.

"Knock" can actually mean " Lifter Tick " if the car has been sitting. Lifters can give out and clatter like hell.

If it's "crank-walked" and it needs "a new cylinder head" I'd be iffy on this car. Guy seems 75% retarded with the little bit of info you've given.

aight cool, ill play around with the crank next time i go and see it and see what happens thanks!

and i forgot to ask, what exactly is boost fluid?

Rough idle and start could be the timing is off a tooth. I would def check that too.
I second the notion that if the boost fluid is low, or empty, walk away....its garbage.

It's a special mixture or water, argon, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, oxygen and other trace elements that makes your car go faster when compressed and sprayed into your intake.

you forgot the key ingredient, ACETYLENE! for combustion inside the manifold.

If its a turbo car you NEED boost fluid. Your car will not run right without boost fluid. Its rather expensive, most car part stores dont have it on hand, you need to special order it.

Here is a Boost Fluid thread link.

what they said^^
ebay is probably the best place to get some. You could probably get a good deal on some if you buy in bulk too:thumb:

Thanks for all the replies about boost fluid haha.

But i'm going to bring it by the mechanic prob. this weekend and just have them tell me what exactly is wrong, and if its gonna take a lot to fix then i'm prob. not going to even bother. hopefully its only going to be like a 200-400 dollar fix or less :D..

keeping my fingers crossed.

most mechanics refuse to work on our cars, if they do work on them rarely do they fix the problem. most problems are boost leaks or normal problems that arise with out cars.

Well i found a local dealer who still has some boostfluid in stock, if you dont know what it looks like its like this:

you are welcome

fact 1: you guys are really picking on the "noob" hes gonna run to autozone to purchase some of that wonderful booooost fluid.

Fact 2: DONT buy a broken car for a daily driver is a definite problem that shouldnt be messed with. If you cant differentiate be boost fluid or crankwalk the car isnt for you. Sorry if i sounded rude. Good luck, find another gst or gsx, the extra money spent with no crankwalk, or teeth off is well worth the time and effort to rip the interals appart. Hope that helps.:D
