What's the hottest your coolant temp has ever gotten?

With all this extreme summer heat, I thought it would be interesting to see how hot some of you have seen your car get. I know mine hit 230-235 sometimes during idle last summer, with no apparent issues. This year it's better, but it's still seen some pretty extreme spikes when I wasn't paying attention.

It also got me wondering just how much a 4g63t could take. I know many race cars can run at extreme temps...I wonder what a 4g63 could hit for a brief period before meeting it's maker? (Not that I want to find out the hard way LOL

Not in the DSM, but I had a Corvette at one time that I got to 265. Scary!

DSM never went above 206.

I've personally had mine pegged out on the temp gauge (how ever high that reads) about 3 time this year... No damage, perfect compression.

Mine pegged out as high as it could read. Stock radiator hose split at the clamp near the thermostat housing on my way to work one morning.

About 2 weeks ago on a 98 degree day i was waiting for a freight train for probably 8 minutes and mine got up to 234 on dsmlink. My stock gauge was just a hair past the halfway mark. I had to turn around so i could start driving and get the little bit of airflow i get to my radiator.

I had a thermostat failure earlier this summer driving over Vail Pass, The check engine light didn't come on till after the coolant was boiling and pushing out of the overflow tank. I removed the thermostat on the side of the road and found mine had failed in the closed position, I always thought they where designed to fail open so this didn't happen? Not damage to the motor, still runs great and cool.

Had mine hit max when I cut a coolant line from the t-stat housing to the intake. Since the 170* t-stat I see tops 196* on the ScanMaster. That's 100+ ambient, sitting, with no wind and fans off. AC compressor doesn't have a belt so usually I turn the blower motor on its lowest setting and turn AC switch on. That runs both fans, keeps the coolant at 189* at idle, no matter ambient.

The super stat from Advance Auto will fail open.

The PO replaced the tired stock T-stat with a cheapo, I see at least a minute or two of 220+ almost every time I log it. I don't think the f'er even opens completely until over 205. I'm not sure what the max is that I have logged, but I know I've been over 240 before with this car.

I've seen a stock headgasket hold at over 260, and I've seen MLS ones shit the bed while never logging more than 250. However, head fastener stretch and a few other things may have also been a factor, there's a few variables.

Mine on avarage hovers around 210 idle, and lower cruising. Highest I had mine was about 230ish (when my CEL comes on), and that was when I was having issues with the AC on with the big fmic and no ducting. All is fixed now, and highest I see with AC is about 210-220.

Could've just turned on the fan via link while just sitting there with your laptop rather than driving back and forth ROFL

Mine has seen the gauge pegged unfortunately. the lower rad hose split going down the highway. The stock head bolts stretched but i managed to just keep about 8 liters of water in the trunk just kept it topped up every day (and every half hour on the highway) it still ran strong until the day i pulled the head. the gasket ,stock composite, wasn't in horrible shape somehow.

I had my 220* CEL come on yesterday after some spirited driving. 100+deg and humid out...no heat shields since the FP manifold went on.

Highest I've logged was 235*. I was having some over heating problems at the beginning of summer. Now the only time it gets over 200* is at idle because the fans come on at 203* but it holds there. I know it hit higher then 235* when I was autoxing 2 months ago based on the needle position on the stock gauge, but I wasn't connected to link.

Ive got a single slim fan that is on at all times, theres not much else i could do.

I would def wire in another slim fan. It helped my car a ton when my A/C fan wasn't in. Temps at idle were getting hellaciously hot.

But the highest I have recorded via data logger was around 240 cruising. Not a good time. Fans and tuning device are key.

After DsmLink I have around 193. With a/c on the highway, I hit about 213. No air ducting =/

I rarely see temps above 210* with a stock radiator and the stock fan and an OEM replacement t-stat. My fan kicks in at 210* and shuts off around 206*. My a/c condenser is gone and the stock a/c fan was melted a few years ago from the turbo so it's gone as well. This is with a 3in thick FMIC core.

New t-stat, radiator and fans will be purchased soon:)

When is the CEL suppose to come on? Mine has never come on while overheating... Maybe Evo ecus don't do it.
