I was looking around ebay in search of a catback exaust and I saw that there is an N1 style that looks like the Apexi N1 but its just a look alike and its extremely cheap..only 133 bucks plus shipping here is the link..

my question is why does the Apexi N1 cost so much when I can get one for half the price thats looks just like it...is its funtion completely diffrent or somthing? or are they really cheaply made? should I buy this catback exaust or go for the real deal? thankz ~Dustin(ECLIPSE95)

The REAL n1 is mechanically totally different im sure. The ones on ebay just LOOk like the apexi style. Apexi did a lot of research to create the best exhaust they could out of the n1. the ripoff brands just try to look like it, and i really doubt they are even bigger piping. They are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Exhaust is exhaust. As long as it is the same size and the metal they are using is of good quality then buy it. All it has to do is get the burt fuel out the back. Its like asking why is a Nike so much better than a shoe from Payless, there is no answer its personal preferance. I would guess, however that its R&D and youare buying a brand name.

It all boils down to the fitment quality. There isn't really much reserch to do for an exhaust. It just might fit differently and sound a little different, but its still a functional exhaust. Like boostedinaz said, why nike charges so much? its because of the brand name, they can.

yea i completly agree with that! if that exhaust was 3" i would be all up on that. but its only 2.5".

There will be two differences between the apexi and knockoffs.
1) The material used
2) The strength of the welds
There may not be any difference between the two but i feel better spending an xtra $60 on the apexi. Especially since the one on my honda lasted thru 4 years of ohio winters w/o an ounce of rust.

Sound is a BIG defference. I got a N1 style muffler from ebay, and it sound different when the engine is at different temps. Depending on what sound you like, i would go for a name brand.

The quality of the packing in the mufflers matters. Cheap packing will blow out faster and soon you'll have an exhaust that'll qualify you for a noise ordinance ticket.

it's expensive because it is quality. saying they're all the same is not entirely correct

the apex catback is all mandrel bent piping, if you fab pipes at a muffler store, chances are they won't use mandrel bent pipe. the metal used is also likely better quality than the metal you'd end up with at a muffler shop. you getwhat ya pay for
