What's the cons of a LSD over an open differential?

I understand the benefits of a LSD over an open differential but what are some of the cons of having one over an open? Is a open differntial safer for high speed corners? more reliable? Cheaper to manufacture? Not sure why cars would come with a open differential when a LSD could be used instead.

Thanks!

After some further research I think a open differential would offer better tire wear.

I guess my main concern is if a LSD is just as safe or safer then a open differential. Say if your going around a high speed turn and instead of one wheel spinning with a open dif you could now be spinning two wheels leaving no traction.

No no no, that would only happen with a locked differential. An LSD is exactly what it's name is, a Limited Slip Differential. When cornering, a LSD will send power to the outside wheel to improve cornering. When going straight, it will lock up to provide maximum traction.

A downside to a LSD, at least for some makes, is chatter from them when they are engaging and disengaging.
