Hello, first off I did do some research on Google and here on the forum, nobody had a solid answer as to the oil weight to use when running E85?

I just recently picked up this my 1g and just finished doing the body work and paint on it and now I am giving it a full tune up before taking her to the track for its first runs since I bought her a month ago.

I have 5 quarts of 10w30 full synthetic oil sitting in my garage now and was wondering if that oil is OK or different weight?

The most popular oil weight I found when researching was 20w50.

What oil do you run when using E85?

Pardon me as I don't run e85, but why, according to you, does it matter about oil when when talking about fuel?

I personally do use and suggest Rotella for your choice of oil. It has high anti wear properties and is very affordable.

Valvoline vr1 is compatable with alcohol fuels.

Fuel contamination. It happens with every fuel. All used oil samples have some fuel dilution.

I just new to running E85 and was wanting to know if there is a difference in what oil I should use. that's all.

Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware that some oils were not compatible with alcohol contamination.

Amsoil Dominator 20w50 is alcohol compatible and a friend has proven it to me running it in his circle track car. He can run 2 races instead of one without changing and not near as much oil in the catch can.

I like the Rotella 15w40. Cheap and I change it enough.

Fun fact about e85 - Toyota Tundras with e 5.7 e85 motor, right from toyota - if running on gas, oil changes are done every 5k - if on e85 , every 2500. Definitely play it safe with your oil.. I don't see the point of spending high money on synthetic oil when you'll be changing it often.

Another vote for rotella 15/40. Great, cheap stuff. no need for synth, unless of course, your road course racing where oil temps get out of control.

Yes, the oil does get dilluted with the fuel over time, more if running richer. Since you use more fuel running alcohol, it gets dilluted quicker, so you need to change the oil more frequent using alcohol.

I've been running E-85 and Rotella 15w40 for 2 years now. Motor looked great when I had it apart a few months ago. Good looking bearings and no abnormal wear that I could tell. I do change my oil every 500 miles :D I figure, what's $20 every 2 months when I have $4k in my motor?

Just a question. Wouldn't the alcohol evaporate?

I'm not a chemist, so i can only go off my experience running an alcohol powered drag car. After each race event i would change the engine oil, and noticed that the oil had a strong smell of alcohol and there also was water in the bottom of the pan.
I assumed the water was coming from the alcohol and pooling under the oil because the oil temp wasn't high enough to boil out all of the water.

Fuel wash down.

Alchol breaks down oil faster than gasoline. Use your preference of oil and change it more often
