Is it really bad just to use 87 rather then the 93? I know my friend has been using 87 since he got his car, he has a 98 gsx 98 gst and a 92 vr4 and he only uses 87. Is it bad to run that?

I run nothing but premium (92 octane is what we have here in WA)

BUT... I've never owned a car that could run on 87 octane. Every car I've ever owned (only three...) has been boosted (One supercharged, one supercharged + nitrous, and of course, the talon) so I'm just used to buying 92 octane. Even when I drive someone elses car I reach for the 92 pump. It's just not worth the risk for me to run 87. What do you save, 20 cents per gallon? So on a full tank (lets say 15 gallons) you save... THREE DOLLARS. It's just not worth it to me. I'd rather spend the extra three bucks and know that my car is running how it should, and not have to baby it.

You can start adding it in whenever. If you mix, the overall octane will go up and you'll have better performance, but the real power comes when you have a full tank of 93 :hellyeah:

ok from reading all this i decided to start using premium instead of 89. But today i just put in like 3/4 of a tank of 89. Should i wait till its empty or can i mix 91 or 93 in later. Thanks
This may come as a shock, but fuels blend together just fine.

Mix equal parts of 87 and 89 and you'll have 88. Mix equal parts of 89 and 91 and you'll have 90. One way or another, your fuel will eventually be all one grade if you switch now and run nothing but premium from here out.

I know you are all gonna be mad at me, but I run regular in my '90 Talon TSi. The main reason: I get it free!! :p

That's the definition of irony. Alaska's sitting on enough oil to fuel the USA for the next 40 years, and you can't get higher than 90 octane there. ROFL!

and that's also why we almost pay a dollar more then everyone else but in return we get a check from the oil companies every year to live hear. Win lose situation LOL
