What turbo?

my 98 gst with stock turbo i want to upgrade to either 1) i have a td05 sitting around or i can can 2) buy my cousins turbo off of his evoVIII that he just took out which be better for the long run and is their a major difference?

Have you upgraded anything else on your car fuel wise? If not, a 16g turbo is not going to do you much good.

The Evo8 turbo will not work as a direct bolt on.It willl cost you more to run the evo turbo than it will to run the 14b, or 16g that you have...The tdo5 turbo will be a direct bolt on sort of..Some things are required, but its alot easier to do and cheaper than going with the evo8 turbo..

no the car is pretty stock just got a catback system and an air filter so the td05 would be a lil helpful? or is their better upgrades to do to maximize my performance before the turbo??

You just hit the nail on the head


Work on getting the supporting mods:
-injectors, pump, pump rewire, AFPR if necessary
-tuner/logger, wideband o2 sensor
-boost controller and boost gauge

ok cool... so im pretty new to this and just getting into cars and my eclipse and upgrading it... what do you recommend on getting first and does it really matter which brand or type?

With your car, I would do things in this order (brands inserted if something sticks out):
1. Tuner/Scanner - Look into CeddyMod, which uses a Tactrix cable. This will take a bit of research, but will be the most cost effective for you.
2. Wideband sensor - Innovate is the brand I recommend, but you can search on here as there are plenty of threads with recommendations.
3. Boost gauge - Whatever you like, there are plenty of brands.
4. Boost controller - I like Hallman Pro units.
5. Fuel pump/rewire kit - Look around for what pumps are out there between Walbro, Deutchworks, etc. and pick up the rewire kit from eBay.
5.1. AFPR - This is recommended if you go with a 255lph or larger pump. I would recommend getting that large of a pump right off the bat so you don't have to upgrade for a long time.
6. Injectors - If you tune with the above recommendation, you can go as big as your wallet will allow. I recommend FIC brand.

As always, please search on a specific question, or even generic like this, before posting. Most answers, opinions, and reviews are out there already.

It depends on how crazy you want to go or what hp you want to hit..I first reccomend gettting an aftermarket boost gauge..The stock ones are crap..Basically Get everything Brain listed if you plan on boosting more than 14psi, and less than 20..If you go above 20 get ARP headstuds..

I push 20-25psi out of my small 16g with stock head bolts, Bud I wouldn't worry about upgrading those for a while.

best bet for you in all seriousness is a 14b for a slap on. It will actually push the stock fuel system to its limit. And it will give you a seat of the pants increase in power.

Yes, you would tune your car using a computer. If you don't have the knowledge, desire to learn, or time to learn and tune the car yourself, look into getting ECMlink. You'll be able to take your car to a shop and have them tune it for you. I'm not sure if a shop would know what to do if you asked them to tune using CeddyMods.

ok so if i were to tune my own car how would i hook the car up to my computer and i have a cousin into racing a lil and he knows a guy who does all that tuning stuff but how hard would it be to learn myself and the cost to do it myself?
