What turbo is as big or bigger than the EVO III and never creeps?

Well i guess as most people know, which i didnt at the time that the EVO III 16g turbo is cursed with boost creep. Just about everyone has a problem with it when running 3" downpipe and exhaust. Now i know that you can get rid of it by external wastegate, propper porting and other methods such as adding restriction.

But what turbo is a good street turbo and has balls, like the EVO III but doesn't ever really have an issue with creep?

Damn, you're still struggling with this? If you can afford down time, send me the manifold, turbine housing and the o2 housing and I'll port it for you.

i think the question is to broad. there are probably any number of hybrid turbos that can meet or beat the evo3 16gs performance. but i think the methods you mentioned are the best ways to eliminate creep. i have a b16g w/ almost 3" turbo back O2 eliminater exhaust (waste gate exhaust is dumped to atmosphre), evo3 non ported exhaust manifold and i never have boost creep (though i am set up at a low 10 psi). i think why i never do is because the dump tube.

haha...well no and yes, i mean i have it down to about 2 psi. But, i want my 3" downpipe and exhaust back so bad, it just bothers me for some reason not having it. I would love to have you port them, obviously i will pay you, because i was just about to try and ship it out to Road Race.

Why not just do it then? Is it such a big deal, or is there some kind of problem?

because i dont want to go external wastegate and i have already paid to have my turbine, o2 and exhuast manifold ported out witht he bigger flapper

If you're serious about it, pm me.

Add some resistance to the exhaust and you will be fine. A cat and/or resonator works wonders.

Why not just downgrade to 14b? ;) Not a very efficient way to solve boost creep.

yea, i got an evo III w/ a 3" turbo back on. i ported the turbine housing, ex. manifold, and did the flapper. runs 27 psi w/ no problems whatsoever. had it at 18 psi but it crept to 20psi in 3rd gear at around 5500 rpms. good luck porting....smaller turbos tend to creep more than big ones. :thumb:

I have a Big 16G 7cm (pre what we know as the EVOIII 16g) and a 3" turbo back with no cat and no boost creep. I had Forced Performance port it and install the 34mm flapper when I ordered it. I ported and matched the EVO III O2 housing it's mated to.

Running a tubular O2 housing will do the trick. I run a re-routed unit so I don't have the noise of a dump but my E16g has no problems creeping. I also have just the stock flapper.

Whats the problem with going to external again?

Tial 38mm Wastegate: $210

Labor to install it on your ex manifold: $75

Manifold, turbine, housing and o2 ported: $150

Smoking various "Fast" cars with an EVOIII that actually holds boost where you need it:
PRICELESS!

Just get an external wastegate installed!

The evo3 is not like other tdo5 turbos. It has mega intake and exhaust flow capibilities like a 20g, so don't let the low price of one of these fantastic units fool you.

Remember, slowboy and various others have gotten 400hp from this turbo. How many 400hp turbo cars do you know that have internal wastegates?

I only get 1 or 2 psi of creep in the winter. Never any in the Summer. My turbo isn't ported at all. It has the stock wastegate flapper.

I bet that if you upgrade your cams, the creep will go away. :) Doesn't sound right, does it?

hmm here is my personal experience..

i use to have a RRE PORTED Big16G w/their install kit on my 95 GSX with 3" turboback.. stock 2g manifold and o2 housing.. to get more into detail so u dont start tweakin out.. my downpipe is an RRE downpipe.. it is 2.5" BEFORE the FLEX.. and 3" all the way after.. bolted to a 3" highflow cat and then to a Greddy Power Extreme 3" Catback w/2 resonators..

i did not get any boost creep or spike..

now ur probably saying.. oh thats not an EVOIII Big16g and thats the best blah blah blah.. i recently upgraded to a PTE SCM50.. t3/t4 hybrid.. .63 a/r 76 trim(stage 3) hot side.. still no creep.. still no spikes..

i know all cars are different.. maybe i got lucky.. but thats my setup and it sure has been working for me.. good luck

oh yea.. both INTERNALLY gated

I too have an RRE downpipe, their HF Cat & apexi N1 catback and I could hold 14 psi on my evoIII without any creep. I'm running the SBR mani, ported O2 housing and the turbo has the 34 mm flapper mod as well as alot of additional porting that "oldman" has talked about (there is also a tech article that covers most of it on here as well).

Now I know I have a cat but my buddy has basically the same setup except an rsr downpipe to their catback and he can run 14 psi with no creep either & this is without a cat. We did the same porting to his turbo.

I'm running the Evo III 16G with a 2.5 turbo back from RNR with nothing ported on it and I never get boost creep at 15 PSI. I get occassional spike of 1-2 PSI if I let off all the way over 4k and then floor it again.

First hand? about 5 of my close friends. the list:
2 EVO VIII's
2 WRX STIs
1 WRX

.. all internal gates pushing 400WHP or more. you can control creep with proper porting and a dump if you must. my T04B V-Trim doesn't creep and it's internal.

5 400hp cars in indiana!? YEah right!! ROFL

I'm just playing! Besides, I realized that I neglected to include the words 3" exhaust into "how many 400hp cars...etc"

Listen. The point is, 3" straight through exhausts (I mean 3" from the bottom of the o2 housing to the tip, now...) do not hold higher solid boost levels with an internal wastegate.

If the exhaust was 2.5", then it would be waaay easier to control creep with an internal gate.

But it is not a 2.5" system, its 3" all the way back.

Do your convoy of 400hp buddies have a setup like that?

External also adds the "Ganster-bling, mega-sooper type r effect, yo"!

so how can you go wrong!? :sneaky:

Yo, that is exactly why some of us try so hard to stay internal. :D

riiight, I am really bad at sarcasm. Gunna have to work on that... :p

Actually I am a huge fan of externals, routed back in.

Kinda like this little gem piece:

That would be the only way I would ever run an external except it would be mounted on the manifold instead of the o2 housing. The main cause of boost creep is the design of turbine inlet/wastegate entrance, not the o2 housing. An external mounted on o2, though a great improvement over a flapper, you can still creep without proper porting of the turbine housing.
