Answer:
Originally posted by ShapeGSX You can install a larger flapper on a 16G, too, which will definitely get rid of creep without a doubt. But there is a chance your boost will drop. If you instead port intelligently, you can get rid of creep on a 16G without the boost drop issue. But, personally, I wouldn't blindly install a larger flapper on ANY internal wastegate, regardless of the turbo.

buddy of mine with the EVOb16g cannot get it to stop creeping for anything. HE is having to go with an external wastegate setup :thumbdown

What has he tried to stop it from creeping?

ok shape you got my attention with the issue of a boost drop when a bigger flapper is installed. i ordered the flapper yesterday and am waiting for it to come in. right now my evo316g is creeping me to fuel cut, and i cant have that.

if i port the flapper hole and put the flapper on , how good are my chances of me loosing boost? how much boost is lost. if the turbo is set at 18 pounds, how far can it drop and how fast??

With my small 16G, if I set the boost at 19psi, I'd be at 16psi by redline. If I set it to 23psi, I'd be at 19psi by redline. Made the car feel like a slug. But I didn't even realize it until I finally had a turbo that would hold boost to redline.

thank you shape, i can definately live with that. since my last turbo was the t25 im used to that LOL. i wood much rather boost less than too much

thanx

have a 3in apexi DP (no cat) and 3in apexi exhaust, evo16g, and boost creep out my balloon knot. between 5k and 6.5k boost goes from 10 to somewhere above 23. Car starts to sputter at 23. From what ive read i gather that the probelm is that the internal wastegate is too small and that the flapper doesnt open to a wide enough degree to allow enough gas to escape, leading to gas building up faster on the turbo side than can be relieved thru the small, tight, virgin like hole called the internal wastegate. ive read a few posts that say they enlarged the hole and installed a larger flapper and that helped but didnt eliminate the problem. Some say it cured it completely. Seems the only sure fire way is an external wastegate. This is more expensive but also seems to be a 100% sure cure and allows for a larger turbo in the future, which may require it anyway. Im currently looking for a 38mm tial WG and a flanged exhaust mani. Install that and have my flapper welded shut should do the trick.

Im no authority on this subject but this is just the conclusions that i have come to from reading tons of posts and my own personal experience.

Thanks for the space.
