This always happens, I want to buy an exhaust system but right now I am on a tight budget (just bought a house). I really want the Thermal 3" TurboBack, but unfortunately can not justify it, and afford it. I am willing to settle for the Buschur 2.5" TurboBack, but I know for a fact that as soon as I buy the Buschur, someone is going to sell the Thermal turboback for the same price that I am about to pay for the Bushur....but no one is selling one right, ARGH ARGH. and I actually do need an exhaust system, what to do what to do!?!? My first Gen had a 3" Thermal, damn, I miss that sound... Help Fellow DSMer's! What to do....

rnr dude, how can u not know about their awsome prices and terrible shipping speeds.

I know of their current prices, but i hear people waiting Months to get it?!?!
I dont want wait.. I've been waiting 9 months (to get another DSM) already :D
So, I am just anxious, I guess...

I don't know how much the aftermarket systems go for but I will bet you could find a good muffler shop, or performance shop to make you one cheaper. I made my own, It cost me about $300 in parts. Of course for this you need a welder and a few power tools.

I went with a megan racing 3" DP (ebay - 150$ shipped)
and the bosal 3" catback (320$ shipped) www.sfxperformance.com

cut the flange(s) at the cat off and had a piece of 3" stainless slip-fit made to join them, 3" mandrel system all the way back. baffled muffler, with dual 3.5" tips, looks amazing, sounds even better.

I have $250 in a full 2 1/2" turbo back, sounds good, flows alright.

Get a muffler shop to bend you a good 3" system, you supply the muffler, they weld it on.

I bet it cost you less than a Cat-back with a name brand.

I also bet that it won't be mandrel bent. Don't cheap out so much that you don't get a mandrel bent system.

How does it sound?? Deep, mellow, ricey?

But when your using 3" piping for exhaust on a Turbo 4 Banger, The AWD dsms only have 2 bends in them...the 90* off the 02 sensor housing, and the 45* under the driver rear cv shaft to the muffler.

At this point the slight "crease" from the muffler shop bender, dominates the price and supply demands of "name brand" exhaust systems, saving $300.00

A crush bent 3" system will perform like a mandrel bent "name brand" system, so close probably, that it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't leak.

I still vote to get a local shop to build the exhaust system.

im going the same way that gsxtacy is describing. i already have a 3'' megan racing dp that i payed $110 and 60$ for a 3 inch cat. i ordered the muffler and havent got it yet but as soon as i get it im gonna have a local shop instal everything and do 3 inch piping for a total of 140. the muffler is gonna cost me 75... thats a total of $385for a turbo back exhaust. people say that 2.5 is enough for most people, so i went with 3'' press bent. i imagine that a 3 inch crush bent should flow about the same or maybe better than a 2.5 mandrel bent. i just dont see myself paying 600 bucks for a turbo back exhaust.

Thanks for the clips, sounds damn good, the external too :thumb:

I hope you dont live in that same street, neighbors be hating you now!!!

LOL, thanks, yea I love the sound of it, nice low rumble, except the external. Funny you should mention it, I do not live oin that street LOL :D :thumb:

Megan Racing does quality work. They test fitted my GSX with a full 3" turboback and it sounds sooo good.

Now Im in a dilemma of choosing between a 2.5" to 3" HKS Carbon Titanium and a full 3" Megan Turboback with no cats.

If you wanna cheap out, then fine, go get a press bent system made for you by some discount muffler shop. If you're serious about performance, then do it right and get a mandrel bent system. RnR's prices are low as hell. 3 years ago you couldn't find a system for that price. How cheap does it have to get for you to be happy? Do you really want to start going so cheap that you're actually willing to lose a quality designed piece and get a press bent system? Not me. I don't ever wanna look back on something I did and kick myself in the a$$ for chosing it.

i was just looking over and rnr website and its 335 for a cat back. thats a pretty good price.
do any of you know if they offer a dual tip muffler if requested? i want a muffler that looks just like the stock one. if they do offer a dual tip muffler similar to the stock one than i might go for their cat back.

Just because you get one hand made locally for a good price doesen't necessarily mean you are losing out on guality. I wouldn't take my car to midas and ask for a 3" system, but there are performance muffler shops almost everywhere these days, as well as other performance shops qualifed and capable of doing work like this. If you can't find mandrel bent pipe locally I am sure you can order it for a decent price. If I remember right I paid about 15 bucks a piece for the two 90 degree and 1 45 degree bends I needed. 1 90 for the downpipe, and the rest you cut to make all your other small bends.
335 sounds like a pretty good price but I bet if you look aroud you could get a turbo back system made locally for close to 400. Bring your car in one day, pick it up the next, and you can choose which cat you want, if you want a cat, which muffler you want, if you want a resonator, and what kind. If you want a dual tip, and they dont have one take in the one you want and have them weld it on.
Try and find a shop that has done 3" pipes on eclipses before.

i already have a 3'' cat sitting in my room and a downpipe as well. i just ordered the magnaflow dual tip muffler. all im gonna need is the piping from the cat to the muffler.
it was mentioned that there are only 2 bends on the awd exhaust system. one at the rear axle and one at the downpipe. i already have a mandrel bent downpipe so i assumme that i only have one more bend to go. so can i just get that piece (mandrel) for the axle bend and then have the muffler shop do the rest of the piping from the cat to the axle???

I waited about 3 weeks for my 3" o2 elim turbo back from RnR Racing. No complaints besides some fitment issues.

There are some small bends that will help the fitment and improve the clearance under the car If you get a mandrell bend 90 you should have enough. they can cut small pieces to make the smaller angles. Make sure they go over your back axle, I have heard some people go under sending your groud clearance to hell. If they say it doesn't fit tell them I say it does and if they don't want to look like the mechanics in The Mask they better hop on it. :D
Also I didn't hear you mention a flex pipe, if you don't have one you should get one. I got mine Cheap on ebay.
Are you getting your O2 sensor housing ported. If you dont know much about boost creep you should do some searches on this forum to find out the details. Club dsm has a good article on 02 sensor porting as well.
With your new 3" exhaust your wastgate will not allow enough exhaust to bypass the turbo and you will continue to build boost higher than you want, which will be very unhealthy for your engine.
You might also want a boost guage to make sure The porting was enough.

RnR seems to be pretty cheap if you dont mind the wait.

I ordered my exhaust from them the 2nd of July! It's already the 22nd of August and I just got notification that UPS just recieved shipping information but has not been sent out yet. I cant wait until i get it though :)

im still undecided on what should i do with the 02 housing. i dont know if should port it or get a better unit. i was thinking of maybe getting a evo 02 housing. but would the evo 02 housing bolt on to the megan dp? regarding the flex, the downpipe has a flex, do i need another flex? and where will it go?
im gonna ask them to have the piping go over the axle. i think thats the best approach and also easier to have my muffler straight and not slanted to the side.
