hey guys i currently have my 97 eclipse with a 6 bolt motor in it. the car is built up a little nothin to crazy but i have a 3 inch downpipe and a 2.5 inch exhaust and i believe its an apexi muffler not to sure though it was on the car already when i bought it. at first i only drove the car every now and then when i felt like driving fast and the sound never bothered me but latley i have been having to drive it to work 5 days a week and its an hour drive. hearing the sound of my loud a$$ exhaust really drives me crazy and i want to go to something that doesnt make a sound like oem but still looks a little more aggresive does anyone have any ideas on an exhaust i could use on my dsm

thanks alot guys

measure the exit out the muffler.. then go on ebay and see of they have a silencer that size.. my exit is 4.5 so searched 4.5 muffler silencer and then you put it on and it quiets it very drastic.. BUT looks retarded

if your catback is 2.5 and downpipe is 3in i would get rid of the 2.5 and just get a 3in so it wont kneck down. Any 3in catback with a resonator wont sound to bad i have a HKS catback and isnt that loud at all.

Thermal r&d exhaust is the best sounding imo. I never get tired of hearing mine, I love that deep tone.

This is the complete exhaust system that I run & it sound's great imo:Forced Performance Racing Exhaust Manifold,S.S.Tubular Recirculated O2 Housing,Borla 2 1/2inch Downpipe,OBX High-Flow 2 1/2inch S.S.Cat,SR-S 3inch S.S. Cat-Back Exhaust.

+1

This is the exhaust I'm going to be buying sometime this year to replace the stock one on my Talon.

The HKS Carbon-Ti I had for my old GST wasn't terrible either. A lot better than I thought it would be after I how big the muffler portion was up close.

3 inch meagan downpipe with a high flow 6" SS cat. Ebay N1 cat back.

With this setup it was a little too loud. The N1 came with a silencer tip for the muffler but it killed my performance because it necked down to 2 inch.

I had a piece of 3 inch pipe that I cut out to fit the high flow in so I welded that to the inside of the silencer and opened it up to 3 inch.

No loss in power and it sounds really nice now.

There's all kinds of reading on the matter if you do a little searching.;) For example, if I do a search for "quiet" under "titles only I get all kinds of exhaust questions and answers about a quieter exhaust. Here are some examples.

Good luck and happy reading.:)

Why in the world would you run a larger down pipe to a more restricting exhaust?

Anyways. I would say Thermal R&D FTW. Great tone but kinda pricey

I ran a 2.5" from the turbo out for years, and when I switched to a full 3, it got noticeably quieter. Perhaps because the tone is lower, it just 'seems' quieter, but none the less, the lower Hz make it more tolerable for sure. I got it off e-bay about 5 years ago, and it's still doing fine. No leaks, no rusting, and it was a lot cheaper than the old one.

This one doesn't say Tsudo, but it has the same ad picture as the one I bought.
