I'm picking up the Talon this weekend. i bought it for $350. The thing is that the motor is out and waiting to be upgraded. I'm new to DSM's and want to know your opinion on what you would do with it. It's going to be a daily driver plus a weekend track car. Should I go ahead and upgrade the turbo. With that done what else should go along with it. Any help at all is going to be appreciated. thanks in advance.

first thing is read read read........do not upgrade a thing till its running. and even before then. go over the car good.
are you sure it did not jump teeth on the timming belt?( it could have bent valves) buy a gasket kit. and then do all matinance. timming belt, balance shaft, spark plugs, vac lines,

and again read read read. the info on this sight is awsome. just read as much as you can. trust me many ppl have bin in your same pickle.;)

Like he said above, read off of this site. I joined recently and have found tons of useful information already. You're in the right place, just look at the recommended upgrade paths and search the forums for individual needs. There isn't much you won't be able to find here.

Well the engine is out and completely apart. hte previous owner had it as a project car and gave up becuase of funds. So i guess my question is while it's apart what do you recomend me to do with the engine if anything. I would hate to put it all together and back in the car to see if it runs just to tear it all down again. From what i can tell everything looks very clean and functional. Or should i just go ahead and get a whole new engine from the marketplace and install that and scrap the old engine?

I would Try to rebuild the motor you have, if it can be rebuilt..
1. Take the motor to a good machine shop and have them look at.
2. Then come back here and start looking at your option for rebuild, there are some smart ppl here..

Hope this helps its kinda basic but thats were I would start.

Thanks for the advice. I've never taken anything to a machine shop before. Then again I've never done a rebuild before. The extent of my upgrading capability has been bolt ons. What exactly can a machine shop do for me? I would like to do a lot of the work myself and learn everything i can.

machine shops can do alot...like rework ## head and do ## cylinder walls.just alot really bro..and as far as it being a street and track car man u might wanna think on it before u start ragging it if its gonna be ## dd..good luck on the project man and post pics

Thanks for the input. The wife is going to be picking it up this weekend, because I'll be out of town the next few weeks. But as soon as I get back I'll get pictures posted as the car is now and get your guys' input. I hope you guys are ready Because i'm going to need a lot of help on this. Till then I'll be on here doing research.

Ok it's been a couple of days since I posted. Well a lot has happened in those two days. The '90 Talon would've been great, but I like the 2nd gen a lot better. So my wife was able to find a 95 Talon non-turbo. The only catch is it was in a fender bender. So here are my plans. I'm not going to have the money to do a whole lot until income season. I'll have about 4 months to rip off the body panels and sand them down and get it ready to be primered. While I have all of the panels off I'm going to go ahead and rip the excisting engine out and get rid of it. Next I'm going to gut the interior completely and get everything cleaned up. By the time i get all of that done it should be income tax season and i can get all of my new toys.
