Yes, I know that this is kind of a wierd question to be in this forum, however I am just curious.

What brand sound system came in the stock fully loaded gsx? And did it have a sub?

Please dont flame me, im just curious.

Infinity deck:am/fm, cassette, cd player (non-mp3), bass - mid - treb knob adjustment. I have no clue if they are bose or not.

The rear speakers are considered dual speakers. I don't know if that is the right term, but each rear speaker is actually 2 speakers combined.

The rear speakers are coaxial -- along with the front door speakers, with tweeters in the dash. It is confirmed as an Infinity 8-speaker package with the only option on top being the additional 6-disk CD changer mounted in the rear of the vehicle next to the spare tire on the passenger side.

Man i don't have that whudda rip off:mad:
Trust me, you aren't missing anything. As is usually the case with most pasenger cars, the stock "Premium" Infinity sound system is hardly anything better than one of those $50 head units from Wal-Mart.

I had to replace the door speakers in my '97 a while ago. Naturally, the cheap surrounds had deteriorated. They looked like something you'd pick up for $5 from Radio Shack in 1982 and install in a '70's pickup truck. When I first saw how cheaply made they were, I figured that Mitsubishi had used an Infinity head unit and amplifier, then coupled those with cheap speakers from some no name company in China. I was dismayed when I looked at the back of the speaker and saw a big sticker on the magnet with Infinity's name proudly stamped on it. I lost a lot of respect for them that day.

On the other hand, I can't be too upset with Mitsubishi for that. To this day, most automotive manufacturers are still making a pretty penny by getting customers to upgrade to the premium-super-deluxe sound package for $1500 or more. The fact is you could take a third of that money, head over to your local Circuit City (or car audio shop of choice) and have a system installed that is markedly better than the questionable OE offerings.

On a positive note, I will give Mitsubishi/Infinity credit for the stock amplifier. I'm not saying it's a great amp but, it gives an otherwise mediocre sound system the power to effectively drown out the sounds of that police cruiser behind me. Honestly, that's really all I'm looking for in a car stereo. :rocks:

Mine has a cd changer and a bose(??spelling??) system, its stock i guess i bought it off a older guy like that.
With the cd changer (the stock 10 disk magazine in the rear I presume) is there still a cd player in the radio also so you don't have to get out of your car every time you want to play a cd that's not in the changer?

"...but when you want a different one you have to get out of the car to go back and change what's in the magazine. Or does the radio still have a cd also? I guess I just assumed it didn't. Does anyone know?"
I can't say that I know for sure, however, I'm 99.9% certain that the CD changer was an option that was added to the rest of the system. In other words, the head unit and everything would be the same if you had the CD changer addition.

On my '97, I have the Infinity system (as mentioned above) without the CD changer. However, the head unit does have labeled controls (such as a "DISC" [up/down] button) which would most likely be used in concert with a remote changer.

r u sure the bose is stock??
I dunno never had a 2g before

No it has a stock one in the dash, not a cd changer in the trunk.

Yes, the head unit (double-DIN) still has a CD changer of its own. They'll read recorded CDs, not RW CDs, but of course won't read MP3s.

Mitsubishi/Chrysler use only Infinity. Nissan, GM, Infiniti and I don't know who all else use BOSE.

Mazda was notorious for using Bose in the 90's -- the 3rd gen RX-7's had it as a premium audio package as part of the touring models and PEP (preferred equipment package) models from 1993-1995. The Bose system weighed around 45# and took up substantial amount of space in the hatch compartment. It also had the option of a 8" subwoofer from the dealer as an add-on.

My Step-Father's Mk I Audi TT has an OE Bose system in it. I'll just say it doesn't even sound as good as the DSM Infinity system. I'm sure that Audi charged an arm and a leg for it too.

Once again, if you're in the market for a new car, my suggestion would be to save your money and go to a car audio shop if you want a better sound system.

I had a 2003 Maxima with a factory Bose system, with a subwoofer.

A stock Infinity system like the ones in the '99 Eclipses, don't hit the lows or the crisp highs like my Bose did.
