What Should I do

Ok yesterday I picked up a 90 AWD TSI. I got some info about the car from the guy I bought it from but It isnt truthful. The car is a M/T car but its got a 13G turbo on it for some reason. TD04 housin... #%@^

Will it be ok to run this turbo for a few months until I can get a 16g or something?

I found a 80mm Garrett on CL But Im not ready for that. Guy wants 150 for it and I think I may just buy It to keep for future use.


Also the guy told me 1st and 2nd gear were shot. Im thinking maybe the 1-2 fork is broke and was looking at the dissasembly article on here and think I might tackle it. Is it pretty complicated????

I only paid 400 for the whole car with a FMIC, Blitz BOV. Drilled and slotted Rotors. ACT 2600 Clutch, 3 Inch Turbo back exhaust, Greddy Turbo Timer, and I verified the bottom end to be 1g rods and 2g pistons.

There's really no problem with driving a 13g...

And an 80mm garrett for $150? I'd question that...

Yeah i was questioning the turbo. As far as the trans trouble. Would I be better off trying to locate a used trans or try rebuilding this one. I can have the motor and the trans out of the car here within the next hour!

Ok I went and talked to a buddy of mine who I happen to do alot of business with and is the only person around town that will rebuild a M/T and I told him the deal and if the 1-2 shift fork is all that was wrong with it then if i get the fork then he said he would charge me 80 to put it in. If thats all thats wrong with it then im pullin the tranny today!!

Sounds like you got a heck of a deal. The 13g will be fine until you can get a 16g WITH THE PROPER SUPPORTING MODS. Getting a 16g without doing anythig else is a waste. What was worng with the trans?

After some messing around I found the bracket that holds the shift cables to be missing a bolt and the bracket was moving when shifting to 1st.

Just looked at the car and it has gabriel adjustable struts in the rear, bigger swaybar, drilled and slotted front rotors, tein springs on all 4 corners and front and rear strut tower braces.

Well I stayed at the shop last night til 1am getting the car back together. Motor is perfect. Quiet, smooth and no knocks. Only issue is that the intake manifold is leaking causing the car to idle really bad. Gonna put a new gasket on it today. I'm very impressed. Even with the 13g the car absolutely hauls the mail. Trans shifts perfect too....

I've been waiting well over 10 years to have this car. The white 92 in my avatar I never got running due to joining the military. 10 years of waiting paid off big time!

Thanks guys. I'm loving every minute of it. Drove it up town to pick up parts we needed at the shop and my friend at the parts store was amazed what I paid for it.

Also it feels good to be back in the dsm community!
