what kind of pistons is in my motor

to check cams you will need to remove the valve cover. depending on mileage you may be able to pull a spark plug out and shine a light down on the piston. if its smooth theres a good chance hes tell ing the truth if its a little rough probably lying. of course a borescope would work best good luck.
or to be sure you can remove pan that would be easier then head

i'm trying to get a gst that is for sale and the guy said that it has stage one cams, 3g lifters, and Wiseco pistons, i'm wanting to know if there is a way to tell he is telling the truth?????

Most the time if the work is done they should have receipts for it. If the buyer doesn't have receipts and doesn't want you to check, by at least taking the valve cover or oil pan off, it means he probably doesn't have those parts he's claiming. If he has those parts, he won't have anything to hide and wouldn't mind you checking. :)

You'll be able to tell what lifers he has and maybe what camshafts if you take the valve cover off. The holes on the 3g lifters are signifigantly larger then the holes on the 90-99 lifters. I'm not sure what stage 1 cams you mean, possibly FP? If you know what brand they are you can look them up on the forums, there are a lot of posts about identifying different brand camshafts.

The Wiseco pistons should have a part number on top of them, depending on which pistons they are, but you typically wouldn't be able to make that out unless you took the head off. You might be able to peek at them from under the engine with the oil pan off though. Same thing goes for the rods and the mounting hardware, check with the oil pan off.

Most people are honest, but it's always good to check if you're unsure. :)

EDIT: Here's a picture of 3g lifters, I don't have a picture of the stock lifters but as a reference the holes in the top are much smaller then this (almost like a pin hole in comparison):

You won't be able to verify lifters by just popping off the valve cover. The holes are covered by rockers. You will have to unbolt the cam caps. If you are careful and you clamp the timing belt to the cam gear, you won't have to redo timing and you won't have to unbolt the caps all the way (you only need enough space to slip one of the rockers out).

I would say when it comes to people selling cars, a lot are dishonest, or at least use a little bit of deception to aid them in their sale. I don't know how many EVO 3 16gs have turned out to be 14bs or a rebuilt engine means a new timing belt/water pump and a few gaskets. If they cannot PROVE the part is new/rebuilt etc be use some discretion whether or not you are going to believe them. When it comes to making a few more bucks, a stock engine suddenly becomes semi-built...

Forgot about that, thank you.

You can pop rocker arms off without taking the cams off. You use a screw driver and pull the rocker up and pop it off to the side. It is hard to explain but it can be done

the biggest thing would be the pistons, because 3g lifters are only about 100.00 so that is ok if not and is there going to be any kind of markings on the cams to help identify them??

If they are higher compression pistons you can do a compression test. It's not 100% but it generally points in the right direction.

Cams depend on the brand, but usually there is some kind of marking/stamp on the shaft.

Good point and much easier. Basically pick a rocker that is not being compressed by a cam lobe, push it down and pry it to the side.
