What kind of engine build will work best with my current setup?

Ive got a 6 bolt engine sitting in my garage that i plan to have built in a couple months. What I'm wondering is what kind of build can i get the most power out of and what kind would be reliable. This will be my DD car and i'd like to build it as a street/strip project. I currently am running a stock 7 bolt with a Mhi Evo III big 16g, 1050cc injectors, 255 fuel pump, afpr, the works.... I was originally planning on making my 6 bolt a 2.3 stroker but ive been researching and with the e316g it says it will insta-spool the turbo but the motor wouldn't make any power past 6k, I don't really know if that would be any good or not. Ive also searched and was just thinking about doing a rebuild on it with Wiseco 9-1 pistons etc. leaving it a 2.0 liter, but idk i'm stumped on what to do. I just want a build that'll handle around 30 psi when i want to crank it there at the track. Any suggestions? thanks

first. what is the budget you have for the build?

Eagle/Wiseco seems to be the most popular and proven build. I'd keep it a 2.0. I wanted to do a 2.3 but I decided not to for a couple different reasons. Go with the Eagle/Wiseco, ACL and some ARP hardware. You won't be able to see 30 PSI on the 16g so I'd look into a bigger turbo (HX35/40).

Check the cylinder head! :D

is there any real difference going from a 2.0 to say a 2.3 or even a 2.5?

Money will determine everything.

You WILL at least need to have the head and block properly resurfaced for use of a MLS head gasket. I like the OEM HG and the Permatorque HG is more expensive but better than the OEM one. Don't do Cometic.

You'll also need ARP head studs, the beefy L19 studs are the ones should be running for 30psi so you don't lift the head.

Yes, higher the liter, the more torque you'll have. It will also lower your ability to rev higher. You won't be going to 10k on a 2.4L unlike a 2.0L, it'll be more like stock red line.

Having more displacement will also spool turbos up a lot faster too but there is the trade off of not being to go to as high of an RPM. There is also from what I've heard, increased wear.

There is also the De-Stroked 2.1 :sneaky:

I've never heard of a 2.5 4g63... If you want to put 30psi down, a 2 liter should be enough. I'd say get some forged or 2g pistons and stick with the 1g rods. The rods should be fine for your goals. But if you plan to upgrade, go with some Eagle rods. Get ARP hardware for the rods too. Some ARP Headstuds or L19's to hold the head down, a MLS. 30psi on a 16g is possible, but you'd be better off upgrading your turbo to something bigger.

I would agree that a 16g is a bit too small to be running up to 30 psi. A stroker is the way to go on the street because of the torque. You'll make as much power with less boost. Less RPM will be nicer on your valvetrain components, too.

Got a budget? Take a look at our shortblock packages.

I like the 2.3 ya'll are offering but i have a few questions... Can ya'll ship the motor or do i need to drive down and pick it up, Are the motor's complete (with head) and ready to install?

Im really not on a budget so that might be what im gonna get....I really don't care if it won't rev to the moon, just as long as it makes alot of power compared to the stock motor.

Not trying to pick a fight or anything, but r/s ratio has more to do with high rev ability. Keeping the rotating mass as light as possible also helps with higher rev's (and getting them there quicker)when it comes to the shortblock.

I really like what I've read on the stats of the destroked long rod 2.2 that magnus has. Nice little bump in displacement and it still revs out to 10.5k.

Anyways, if you plan on sticking with the small 16G, I wouldnt get too crazy with it. Stick with stock rods and cast pistons for longevity and streetability. Have the engine freshened up with good rings, bearings, hardware, machining etc. If you're not concerned with reving it high, go with a 2.4 and a bigger turbo. I could imagine how fast a 2.4 could spool an hx35...

Like everyone else said, budget is the deciding factor...
