What Is Too Much Oil Pressure - Pressure Drop Throughout The Motor

What is too much oil pressure and what kind of damage can it cause besides blowing seals in a turbo? Is high oil pressure bad for bearings? The pressure is measured right after the oil pump at the oil sending unit and by the time the oil reaches other parts of the motor wouldn't there be pressure drop from oil running threw other componets? A good example is when people feed turbo from the head and not get enough oil pressure, but feed it from the ofh and get too much oil pressure.

10psi per 1000rpms is good oil pressure.
Anything over 100 psi is too much oil pressure IMO.

Yes the oil pressure is lower at the head then at the OFH, so you are correct that the pressure drops.

I second this. My GSX under wide open throttle never goes over 90 psi and yes there would be a pressure drop.

Too much pressure means leaks at seals, theoretically the only damage I think would be possible valve float at high rpms if the lifters get too much. Here everyone is complaining about low oil pressure and oil light and you go saying you've got too much ? You should share some with those low pressure guys !

Yes, high oil pressure is bad on the oil film on the bearings and also dumps a lot of oil in the head at high rpm. Valve float mainly comes from the valve springs not being able to shut the valve at high rpm.
