Hey guys, this is my second 2G Turbo DSM, this one a '97 GST. I bought it wrecked, and I am in the process of putting it back together.

I ran into something today though, and thought someone could help me out. On the bracket that bolts to the passenger frame rail, where the Boost Control Solenoid is connected, there is another box, looks to be a relay or something, and it is broken.

I don't know what the hell it is so I can't order a new one, unless by some sort of miracle a salvage yard around here has a turbo car and I can get it off of that. Any ideas?
:dsm: Thanks:dsm:

Well, I would, but the car is 40 minutes away in one of our storage units (The family owns a mini-storage). I work on it there in the daytime before/between/after class. I will try to get a picture tomorrow and take my laptop with me so I can post it up tomorrow morning.

Here are pictures - The first one is of the relay/item on the bracket, and the second is the "guts" that have fallen out and broken. Thanks guys.

OK, so maybe an ABS relay or something? I would trace the wires and see where they go, but they go into the harness with 10000 other damn wires, and I don't think it would be worth that. Maybe I could go to a stealership and see if they can bring up a schematic...or get one from someone with a parts car.

if i remeber thats for abs, someone correct me if i am wrong.

I don't think so. I don't know what it is, but mine is also magled like that, everything on the car works like it shoud, except my hatch struts but I don't think they're related. My car doesn't have ABS BTW.

Well, that is good news. It seems that the internal workings of this mystery part are still intact, so I might just epoxy it back together and forget about it.
Thanks,
:dsm:Blake:dsm:

What is this, diode and resistor in series 3 wire connection. Is this how and where it suppose to be mounted. 98 GSX.

Thanks for your opinion... i know the pictures suck, but i know its not a relay... its a big ceramic resistor and a diode in series with each other.

again thanks for the help.

Do you by chance have a wideband O2 sensor in place of your stock front narrowband?

no..

Its the generator relay. "The generator relay functions as a back-up for the
flow of electricity to the rotor coil (field coil) if there is a disconnection or damaged wiring of the charging warning light", says the Mitsubishi Tech Manual.

well this is what the haynes manual calls a "generator Relay" Apprently its a solid state relay and not a Mechanical Relay like most of us are use too. Btw this seams to have fixed my Blown Ignition Fuesable link..

thanks for the help everyone

A Solid State relay is a switching device that completes or interrupts a circuit electrically and has no moving parts. A Mechanical relay is an electromechanical device that closes contacts to complete a circuit or opens contacts to interrupt a circuit.

You mean like the rest of us who already know and do?

BTW - right out of the Mitsubishi manual: "The generator relay functions as a backup for the flow of electricity to the rotor coil (field coil) if there is a disconnection or damaged wiring of the charging warning light."

Sounds like you should also check your charging light being out.

I am actually looking at these pictures. I noticed that you fender looks a little funny. You you think water could be getting at it or anything like that?

EDIT: Fender instead of Finder

I know this is SUPER OLD, but after my AWD swap my SRS light has been on, well this weekend i relocated somethings and this one was one i cleaned up real well and bolted in a new place as well, and as soon as i cleaned the connector up and plugged it back in my airbag light turned off!! I don't use thge OEM charging system anymore so i have no clue how it qwould be related but i even unplugged it and the airbag light cameback on

weird, the ultimate mitsumystery part LOL
