Now you should see a black elongated box with IC piping comming in one end and going out the other, that is the piece of crap you no longer want in there. Unhook the IC hoses unbolt the resonater dropkick it across your garage and put in a two inch piece of steel exhaust pipe and it will look like this: :thumb:

Ive got a 95 GST, and i cleaned my IC last weekend, and was wondering the same thing. Stupid Box!!!

Alright. I was reading the thread about that sound baffle box thing in the LIP. I looked, and sure enough I have it. Does a hard LIP make enough difference to spend the cash on or should I just cut the baffle box thing out and replace it with 3 inch of exhaust piping? I already have an upper intercooler pipe. So should I go the cheap way or the expensive way, and how much difference should I expect from a hard LIP? Thanks alot, Matt

I just removed the box and replaced it with a 1.5 ID pipe. 3" is way to big. I did not really notice any diffrence with this at all. Its kinda a pain in the ass because now that pipe like to blow out at 15 or so PSI! gotta get that fixed and then I will let you know.

I didn't really notice much difference either other than spoolup being louder. O well, must be better than some pointless box. I got 2" OD (I think that's how big it is) exhaust piping from Advance Auto. Mine hasnt blown off yet either.

I think he meant 3" long, not 3" id... anyways, get a little section of 2" exhaust piping and you'll be fine. 1.5" piping is too small, and that's why it blows off past 15psi.

Who ever owned my car before me did that hack, and I had the same problem. An afermarket lower IC pipe was the simple fix, you can get them used for $30-$40, and then when you dont need it anymore, sell it for about the same price. You can also get them new for cheap, RRE has them for $55.

yea my car (built aug 94) didnt have one. yea it was stock...odd

shouldnt really make that much of a difference if you remove it. just some ### resonator.

get that ### shit the hell out! i still have mine...maybe ill start a poll on what i should do with it and take pictures.

What is this for? i took miine out and replaced it with a portion of steel pipe. i took it for a drive and now my boost goes to about 17 instead of 15, and still no fuel cut.

can you guys ellaborate on this abit more so I can also do it, your procedure and whatnot. thx:talon: :laser: :dsm:

i dunno if urs has it...mine is a 2G. but all i did was right before the intercooler on the lower intoercooler pipe there is a little black plastic box. i just replaced mine with a portion of 2 in. steel pipe found in the plumbing section at home depot.

cool, thx ill have to take alook, also what did you use to seal the new pipe around the existing ones?

just the hose clamps that hold on the box. it takes all of about 5 min. the hardest part is getting the steel pipe in.

It's just a pointless 'silencer' only put on '95-'96 turbo dsm's. Thanks for reminding me to get some piping to get rid of it :p. This is the first I've heard of a difference in it, unless yours was possibly leaking and creating a boost leak which is why you saw the gain in boost. I've yet to hear people say it's louder after taking it off, which is probably why Mitsu decided to stop putting them on after '96.
