I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Hello all! I'm on the verge of purchasing my first DSM but I'm a noob in every sense of the word when it comes to DSM's and modern cars/engines in general. I've attached pics, close up video of the engine

as well as a screenshot of the upgrades description. It's listed for $6k but after talking to the guy I'm pretty sure he'll go for $5k. The thing is, in many ways it seems too good to be true; new turbo (lists for around $1k), new intercooler, new intake, etc etc. However, as I said I'm a noob and all my experience is with classic muscle cars. As for the purpose of this car, it'll be a project for my son and I (he's got special needs and is non-verbal, but absolutely loves being in the garage and helping with tools and whatnot), with the ultimate goal of taking it to a few road course tracks and perhaps a 1/4mi track every now and then. I'm extremely interested in hearing y'alls thoughts, and thanks in advance!
Apologies for the large pictures; I'm not sure why it's not using just the thumbnails.

Also, he said he has the fender and front bumper as well. The negative is that it needs the ECU and DSM link? I'm pretty sure that's what he said.

This car would be a hard pass, there are plenty of better examples out there, this car is worth about $3k max.. If you are a newbie and know nothing about DSM's I would wait and keep an eye out for something better.

Dang, really? Thank you so much for the response; I’m supposed to call him in about 30min and was going to go for it if he dropped to $5k, so thanks for the heads up! Question for ya and please forgive my ignorance; wouldn’t all those mods be worth we’ll over $3k alone?

The car doesn't run, what are you really paying for? A shell with a bunch of mods, and the paint isn't even nice!
You'll be forking over $1k immediately for ECMlink, not to mention whatever else the car probably needs to be road-worthy (which adds up quick). $5k is a little high for a non-running car. $3k would be a great price but the seller might not think so. If you're dead-set, I'd say $4k would still be a decent price. This is considering an AWD model because you're basically just paying for the drivetrain + mods. If it's FWD I'd forget about it and hunt for something better.

Hey Everyone, I need your help figuring out what my Eclipse is worth to sell!

My wife and I recently decided we want to replace our DSM with a convertible that both of us can drive (my wife does not drive stick-shift). So, I’ll be selling my 1996 Eclipse GST Spyder 5-Speed with 139k miles on it.

There are a whole batch of photos below that taken last week right after bringing it home from a detailer with a new 2-tear ceramic paint coating on it. Here's the history/details:

I bought the car in 2007 with 32k miles on it. It has been driven very little since late 2012 when we got a sedan for me to use right before my 8 year old daughter was born. We’ve had it garage kept for 9 years. “Sunday driver only” for 8 of the last 9 years. This one comes with nearly all factory options available in 1996 (leather seats, cruise control, power locks/windows, alarm system, CD/Cassette/Radio, fog lights, convertible top boot, spare tire, Homelink garage door opener, etc.). I also have the original window sticker.

All factory maintenance and more has always been completed on-time or early, including full-synthetic oil changes every 5k miles, alignments every 12 months or at every suspension part change, new spark plugs every year, serpentine belts, batteries, timing belts, brakes, shocks, axles, etc. Many of the shop maintenance records are available, and a full list of repairs/maintenance performed since 2007 is below. Original fabric convertible top (with glass rear window with defrost) is in good condition and does not leak on passengers in the rain. Minor leak at rear window, but then drains correctly. Car has been regularly washed/polished/waxed. Minor scratches/dents are present as expected for a 139k mile car of 25 years. The tires are brand new (purchased in June, 2021), and are Firestone’s top-of-the-line summer Ultra High Performance tire. I have a full, clean carfax report.

For full disclosure, the car does have a few minor quirks from age:
Convertible top must be raised/lowered by hand.
Car Radio powers on but needs a volume knob repair or a new radio.
Alarm can only be deactivated by unlocking passenger door.
Trunk can only be opened from inside the car – not by the key.

The car has had minor modifications. Except for the aftermarket wheels, – all of them are minor performance (not cosmetic) modifications. All tasteful and 100% can be reverted to stock if the new owner wishes – nearly all original factory parts are available with the car. A complete list of the modifications can be found below.

For pricing, the Hemmings auction research valuation tool provides a value of $7,999. The Hagerty Classic Car valuation scale provides values for this car, either as a #3 or “good” (non-daily driver) classic car condition at $9,400, or as a #4 or “fair” (daily driver with visible flaws) value at $5,500. Like their #3 rating, this car has not been a daily driver for a very long time, and the paint and interior shine beautifully, however it is not truly flawless, and I have listed it for now at $7k.
What does everyone think – is $7k about right? If not, what do you think it would be worth?

Modifications:
Exterior:
16-inch Sport Edition F10 Machined/Black Wheels
HIR Headlight (Low & High beam) Upgrade

“Under the hood”:
K&N Cone High-Flow Air filter
VooDoo Manual Boost Controller
Smooth UIC Pipe with 1st gen DSM Blow Off Valve
Engine Valve Cover Oil Catch Can Installed
3rd gen (’01 – ’05) 4G63 Oil Lifters
Pro-Sport Oil Temp Sensor & Stock Oil Filter Adapter Plate
ACT High Performance Street Sprung Clutch

Visible Interior:
ProSport Electric Boost & EGT Gauges with Peak Recall/Warning light, installed on driver’s A-pillar
Escort Passport hard-wire smart power cable w/ mute button

Not-visible Interior:
OEM short-throw shifter (cut/re-threaded 1 inch shorter than stock)
Symborski aluminum shift plate bearings (removes sloppy OEM shifter feel)
Shifter cable bushing replaced with roller bearing (crisper shifter feel)
Fog-lights re-wired to work with both low and high-beam headlights

Suspension:
Aluminum Strut Tower Brace
Koni Sport (Yellow) Adjustable Rebound Dampening shocks
Ground Control Ride Height Adjustable Coil-over spring seats with Eibach Springs
Car has been kept at stock ride height and is approx. 60% stiffer than stock

So, do you think it's worth the $7k I have it listed at? If not, what would you suggest?

I know how to fix your volume knob I had the same problem on mine!

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some guidance on a fair price to ask for my 1993 Eagle Talon project. I bought this car several months ago, and had intentions of getting it back together to have as just a fun toy. Always admired the 1G Eclipses and Talons back in HS, so I jumped at the opportunity to pick this one up. Unfortunately (for the car, not for me), I just learned at the end of the year I'm being transferred to a new state for work, and it's going to be a while before I have another garage for working on projects. Figured it's best to go ahead and unload everything I don't absolutely have to have.
Little bit of backstory - 1993 Eagle Talon TSI AWD 5 spd. Approx. 101,000 original miles. Factory white paint (never resprayed or touched up) and interior (grey cloth in amazing shape). Clean and clear title. Until June of last year when I bought it, this car had been sitting under my neighbor's carport, under a car cover, since 2000. Before being parked, this car was my neighbor's son's weekend car. Mildly modified (nothing crazy) and impeccably cared for. He was having issues with the clutch, and thought it was time to replace it. Pulled the transmission to replace the clutch and discovered that the original 7 bolt engine that's in the care was falling victim to crank walk. Ran perfect otherwise...just couldn't get the clutch to operate properly. With that in mind, he left the trans, transfer case, etc out of the car, and located a complete 40k original mile 6 bolt engine from a 1991 Eclipse GST (this was back in 1999). He completely disassembled the 6 bolt motor (dumb in my opinion) with plans to rebuild it into something that had a lot more power. That's when he was then transferred overseas for work (2000), so the car was parked at his dad's, under the carport, and all of the parts he'd started gathering were boxed up and stored in a climate controlled garage.
I've gone through all of the parts and massive pile of receipts. The only things needed in order to reassemble the 6 bolt motor are piston rings, intake gasket and exhaust gasket. From what I can tell, absolutely everything else is there.
Non-stock parts:
Thermal Research turbo-back stainless exhaust
Hallman MBC
Modified factory intake box (also have an original uncut intake box that came with the 6bolt motor he bought)
Shift kit for more precise gear changes
Pillar mounted A/F and Boost guages
Aftermarket springs front and rear. Stock height, not lowered, just stiffer. Will have to double check on brand.
High flow Walbro fuel pump
Other than that, the car was completely stock
New Parts I've Found:
All new main and rod bearing (OEM Mitsu in the boxes)
All seals and gaskets (with the exception of the intake and exhaust gaskets)
New front case
New OEM Oil pan in the box
BSE kit (has OEM Mitsu stub shaft)
All new motor and trans mounts
New shifter cables
New front axles
Factory 6bolt head rebuilt (beautiful!)
ARP head studs and bolts
5 speed trans and transfer case rebuilt in the 98-99 timeframe. Only has a few thousand miles on rebuild. I should have the receipts on this somewhere in the file.
There's more...but this is everything I can think of off the top of my head without going to the garage and looking through everything.
There is no evidence at all that mice or anything else made their way into the car, engine bay or undercarriage. I hooked a new battery up to it, and absolutely everything works. All lights, blinkers, seatbelts, dash lights, original radio, etc, etc, etc. The entire car comes to life and functions properly when power is put to it.
Of course, being that it's an almost 30 year old car that has been sitting untouched for 20+ years, there will of course be other things that are needed once the new engine is built, put in the car, and up and running. Tires and brakes being the most obvious (rotors and pads). However, if someone wants an ultra clean car as the basis for a really easy project...THIS IS IT!
On to some photos. The driveway pics are when I first got it out of hibernation and just hosed the dust off of it. The garage and interior pics are from this morning.
Any feedback on a fair price to ask, as it sits, would be appreciated. Also, if it makes more sense to finish it then sell it...I may be open to that depending on what the value might be. I have about 6 months before having to physically relocate for work, so I may be able to have it as a driver by then.

Any thoughts on a value? Not sure if it makes any difference, but the car is located in Texas, about an hour West of Houston. Thanks!

Think 5-6k with a healthy motor is fair for a quick sale. Polish those headlights 👍

Yes on the headlights! Those photos in the driveway are when I first drug it home and hosed off 20 years worth of dirt. Can't see it in the pics, but I have polished them and they look a million times better.
As mentioned in my previous post, the 7 bolt motor that's in the car (original motor) is inoperable. However, I have a 100% complete 6 bolt motor (in pieces), with all new parts to assemble it. So basically...2 complete motors.
So TK - your thoughts would be about 6K if it were a healthy running, completed driver? How about as it sits?

$3500 -$4k including the motor. Without the motor, $2500 max for me. Looks like it’s in good shape so maybe someone might be willing to pay more 🤷🏻‍♂️

Good afternoon, previously a member back around 2004 or so, had a TSi AWD 1993. Worked on it as a kid some back then, but probably read the forums more than drove the car. Always thought once I was older I would get another one for nostalgias sake.
Stumbled upon a 1997 Eclipse GSX. 98k miles. Rebuilt transmission at 78k. Manual. Some smaller performance stuff, Intake exhaust etc. Not sure about engine work or maintenance, but the Car looks pretty clean inside and out.
Curious what that may be worth and what you would do with it to start out. I’m thinking whatever maintenance hasn’t been done on it first. Not looking to build a race car, would just like to buzz around with the kids a bit and have the car my teenage self wanted. Just maintained and driveable. Thanks for the help.

Looks to be in great condition, visually and its a GSX... Rebuilt transmission @78k? Red flag for me, ill always start lower because of it. Either raced relentlessly or they were that terrible of a driver and have already put another 20k of that on the new trans.....Factor in that youre probably going to need to do the timing belt/waterpump. Willing to do it yourself?... Probably start at $3000, maybe $3500 due to inflation if there are other buyers wanting it.. $2500 if you feel the way about low mileage trans replacements as i do, but owner would probably be insulted by the lowball ...Make sure it shifts right tho and i might be lenient about it. Following the sales on Facebook lately, lot of cravings out there for GSX's and inflated prices from sellers, so no doubt the seller might expect more, but not sure if people are actually coming forward with the type of cash people are wanting.

I say it’s worth between $6-$8k considering there’s no rust, healthy motor and drives good.

Thanks for the replies. To your point six bolt it was listed online and right now it’s low 5 figures. No way I’d get it as low as you’d be willing to pay, haha. Tony, I’d love to get it at even your high range assuming everything is right on it. I too have seen prices high on everything but I’d be curious if some people are dropping that cash. Guess all I could do is wait it out or try to push lower and see where his motivation is. Or pony up the dough, ha!
Thanks again.

Hello guys. Just wanted to round up some opinions to make up my mind. Currently there is a 1998 GS-T for sale. The owner is asking 14K LOL. I asked him about it and such and he said he wouldn’t go any less than 9K. Wells it’s 2023 and don’t know exactly how much people are paying nowadays.

From what I can tell the interior & exterior are at least a 7.5/10. 126K miles, clean title, 5MT.

Owner said, healthy motor, runs and drives great, no leaks or rust. He’s owned it for about 2 years. He lives a 1 state away from me, so I’m trying to gather up data and opinions before I got out there and check it out in person.

Tired to provide as much info as I could, sorry if I missed something important. But anyways, thanks for your input!

Hey y'all, I've been curious about getting into the DSM scene, and I decided that I would maybe start with this imported GSR-4 (asking price $15,828). I was originally looking to get a GSX and I happened to find the GSR-4, but the only problem is that I don't know if that's at a good price or not. I've looked a little bit on dsmtuners, BaT, and other websites too, and from what I can see, GSXs go for about ~$11k on average +/-5k. It seems to be in pretty good condition and only has 60k miles on it which is very appealing. My goals with this car are to probably keep it for a bit, clean it up a bunch, and then keep it as a nice stock car for pleasure riding and probably add some minimal QoL/performance upgrades that won't change the car too much. My only other concern is that if/when I decide to sell the car, how much could it go for assuming it's well-maintained and taken care of for a GSR-4 (not GSX)? I currently have an email thread going with the seller about buying it, but I just wanted to confirm here with the DSM community first. Thanks!

I would say that the car is worth what they are asking for it, you wont find many that are that clean, for any amount of money for that matter, some will say that its a bit steep, but find another one for less, not likely, these cars are toys and toys are expensive.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to join the DSM community and purchase my first DSM car. That being said, I don't want clouded judgement. I'm looking at a few GST models in my area, and there are a few options. One of my favorite, and yet most concerning options is a 95 GST that has lifter tick, and is listed for $5,500.
Seller description: "Selling my personal 1995 GS-T Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo. 430whp. Has been sitting for a year. Drove great last time I had driven it (video is the last time it was drove). As went to start it recently developed a lifter tick. Car has a built Motor and trans by English racing.(4G63T 6 BOLT) I have paperwork for build and dyno as well. Car has a dent on the driver side from someone backing into it. Door still opens and closes fine I believe it will pop out. Super Low original miles under 120k, rare with leather and sunroof as well. I don't have time for this car and I would like to invest the money elsewhere , motivated seller, Make offer, would possibly trade for a 4 door civic Si. Has DSM link and on speed density ect and on and on. Lots of good parts"
I'm concerned the lifter tick could be something expensive and hard to fix, and I'm concerned about possible causes since the motor shouldn't be very high mileage hypothetically. But the thought that it may be normal or an easy fix tempts me. I couldn't seem to find a solid answer anywhere so I figured I'd try my luck here. Thanks in advance!

Lifter tick or A ROD KNOCK??? Sometimes it is hard to tell. An old timers trick is to pull a plug wire from the motor while it is running and see if it goes away. If it does, it is a rod.
Single lifter tick on a 4g motor isn't something I have experienced, and our motors use a roller design. Usually it is all or none in my cases but I do have one 1990 TSI that has a "tick" and I am pretty sure it IS NOT a lifter, I believe it to be the start of a rod bearing so I parked it IMMEDIATELY. I hope others will chime in to give opinions and try and help you in decision making!

So after some time, I've got the funds and set up a meeting time for a different car. I think it looks like its in good condition. No idea what's in the passenger airbag spot, but not a big deal. For some reason, however, I'm not seeing the air filter? Post says it runs and drives. Gonna head up and test it out on Sunday probably. The post is in Spanish, but he basically said the inside is 99% and outside is 90%. Listed for 8k, I talked him down to probably $5,400 if everything goes good on the test drive and I confirm the title is clean. I did notice the dent on the driver side just behind the door. Thoughts? Did I just not see the air filter? Any input is appreciated!
