I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

How much?
How much would you pay for a really clean 92 eclipse gsx
With slowboy evo3 16g turbo, DNP exhaust manifold, 550 injectors, 2g maf, godspeed fmic with HKS valve, turboxs mbc, full megan racing exhaust from divorced turbo outlet all the way with test pipe, mishimoto radiator, prothane motor mount inserts, HID lights, greddy boost gauge and temp gauge(temp gauge not hooked up) in a triple vent pod, has an eprom ecu, car is wired for a full stereo system with new wires run into the doors and each location, interior is in great shape with a little fading on the front seats but thats it, no tears or rips, car has no rust on it. It has a new windshield, new alternator, newer rotors and pads all the way around with both rear calipers have been replaced.

Drives good. Compression good. Original motor timing belt water pump done 15,000 ago. Tranny was just rebuilt. Shift into every gear real easy.

Hello everyone, I have here a nice 1997 Eagle Talon ESI. Its in good condition. It has a total of 155k miles on it. But the motor has been rebuilt, on the new motor it only has about 1500 miles on it.

I dont know alot about the previous mods on the car, but im pretty sure everything is stock. Its been kept good, regularly changed spark plugs and oil.

Minor problems:

A few very small dents, can be easily fixed. Few scratches. Easily fixed as well.
Sun damage on the wing of the car, can be painted over.
White spots on the hood

Major Problems:
I think it is in the rack and pinion or the pump, but the car only turns about half of what a car is supposed to, like it cannot turn all the way to the right, it stops half way. Turning left is good. Just right is the problem. This could be a simple problem, i am getting it checked out today.

So all I need to do is repaint the wing and hood. I can get the 2 small dents out myself.

Tinted windows 30%( any more would be illegal here in kansas)
Interior is spotless, I wont bother with a picture because it looks just like all the other regular 1997 talons/eclipses.

How much would you say this car is worth to someone?

And, if possible, would it be a reasonable trade for an eclipse gst or gsx? Thanks

It would go for $1800-2500 (with the turning radius problem solved) around here. Prices are quite different in different areas though. I'd say you would still need to add some cash for a decent gst/gsx.

Very clean looking car. Its probably worth 2-2500. It still has a lot of miles on it. The suspension bushings are probably getting tired and will be needing replacing soon. I would also look into things like tie rods, wheel bearings, struts. As all these things might need to be replaced soon if they havent already been.

Very clean 2g you have there. I like it a lot. If you need a second opinion on what it is worth and what needs replacing. I'm in OP just shoot me a pm. I have a 2g gsx and a 1g awd laser. My dad has a 1g awd talon. My sister drives a 2g talon and my other sister drives a 3g eclipse. So shoot me a pm if you need help. Also is that car a 5 speed?

Ah cool alright. And its an automatic. Ill trade you for your gsx! :sneaky:

That is a very clean N/T, even more rare than a GSX is a clean N/T. One thing I've learned from past purchases, don't even trust your best friend when buying a car and ALWAYS ask for the paperwork. If the paperwork doesn't exist than as far as I'm concerned it was never done, ESPECIALLY a rebuilt motor.

I've got a '97 N/T with 180,000 original miles and just doing basic preventative maintenance has kept her on the road. I've got no doubt that the owner could be trying to sell you on the high mileage but just saying it's on the body and the motors a fresh build.

:dsm:

Hey guys. I have a WRX and I'm currently looking for a 2nd car to tinker around with. My friend is a security guard at a 32 building apartment complex and told me about a car for sale there. Its a 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST Spyder. Magenta Gray Pearl, 5-speed, 120,xxx miles.

Heres the kicker: It's completely stock, and owned/meticulously cared for by an older lady since she bought it brand new with all papers to prove it. She refuses to put it on Craigslist because she loves the car and doesn't want to sell it to just anyone... She basically wants to know it's going to a good home and I guess is hoping someone really local buys it.

I'm just curious what the general consensus is about how much it's actually worth to you DSM guys to see if what she's asking for is fair.

Don't pay book value....
Then again a thing is only worth what someone will pay for it.

Get a better idea of what they are actually selling for by seaching craigslist nationally, or ebay, or here on tuners classifieds.

No link to the add..So we really dont know whats up besides your word for it..

Sooo withought seeing that stuff and taking you wrod for everything i'd say the consensus is gonna tell you to overpay..

What ad? I specified that she refuses to advertise. She has a for sale sign with a phone number and when we called and met up with her, she had a whole file for the car. My friend knows her because he has been working there for years, but regardless, even if it was hypothetical, it shouldn't hinder your opinion on how much the car is worth.

After owning and working on a specific car, you start to know what they're worth as far as parts and the car themselves, which is why I'm posting on here. I find it had to believe that nobody can give me an estimate of the cars value, based on the facts I provided.

A car that's been raced by a kid and beat up with the same mileage isn't going to be worth the same as one that an old lady has been driving for 16 years. When is the last time you bought a 15+ year old used car that you can know the full history of including maintenance down to the original date of purchase?

I am thinking about doing a trade for a 95 talon awd turbo with the 2.3 stroker motor and 272 crawler cams. I am not sure what else it has other then things like boost controller, afpr, turbo timer... but the claims that it had 325awhp with owner before him on a small tune... Anyways he is asking $2500 for it and I may be doing a trade to him with a 2000 jetta vr6 (will start then something shutting it off).
He says the starter is not engaging and that it needs a new flywheel. I asking him about bump starting it and he said it will start, but idles rough. Could that just be a tuning issue possibly? Also, would it be a decent trade?? has decent body, interior, and may come with dsm link. I will post pictures of both cars later today. Thank you.

This could be either a good or bad deal. Honestly I've learned from experience and would not take over someone else's project. Unless they had receipts for all the work or something like that its likely your trading for a lemon. You also gotta think if its not starting it could be a number of things. Then when it actually does start it's a matter of hoping it runs fine. Sounds to me your already looking at dropping the tranny. Pictures will help a ton also.

What I am thinking, is use most of the parts, possibly the 2.4 stroker also, to put into my 95 gsx that I have been working on. I know i need most of the gauges, and the dsm link is a much needed item that I still have yet to get. IF i decide to sell the 2.4 stroker with forged internals and 272 crawler cams.. how much do you think I will get out of that alone?

I posted this in my Region part of the forums, my region is kind of lacking of activity just wanted some opinions.

I got a response to the ad I posted here on tuners, a Spyder shell for $400 looks pretty clean to me, it's in PA so total would probably be around $900 with picking it up and all. What says you? Clean as I think it is, worth the buy?

I have more pics of it, absolutely bare minimum in rust, some on the rotor edges, but... My intention on buying this TSI AWD was to eventually put it into a Spyder, and an unexpected turn of events shortly after getting a MUCH needed car running. I have a little bit more time and a little bit more money, to go from good enough to make a beast in time for ICC, and I love Spyder's.

((I was stressing completely to get this talon up and running just for a DD. I mean developing a drinking problem stress.)) Thanks to JusMX and various other members I achieved that. Talon runs perfectly... As for the body... Ill save for another post. Anyways, input sooner than every 8 days would be good :p

spyders are the shit
Yeah they are, another thing I was thinking was converting Eclipse body to a Talon body, I mean....Who the hell owns a Talon TSI Spyder AWD?

you want it, buy it bud
As soon as I seen the pics I wanted it, but I was kind of fishing for re assurance, I'm still amateur for the most part on DSMs so I can't lie and say I know exactly what to look for other than rust amount. I've done the countless hours of research on what I want out of it. I think it's a go ahead, but I want to get some more replies before I jumped into it, like I should have done with this TSI, poor thing.

The frame doesn't look bent or anything? Wouldn't it tilt a little on those jack stands with all 4's up?

Eh, not a spyder fan...or convertibles in general really, but if you like it and you can get it for cheap, go for it.

The car does look pretty clean, but I would ask why the car is torn down the way it is. it looks like most everything from the firewall back is there though.
